In all the time Dani had lived in Lochland Grove, she had never gone to the Candle Light Walk. It just really hadn't interested her in the past. Usually during all the odd activities revolving around the famed killer known as Robert Lewis, she was either during her normal patrols or just spending time at home with her mother. Nothing fancy.

What brought her out that night was the fact that she was off duty and that she was going to be on the Candle Light Walk with Kieran Hill. Ever since she had met Kieran at the Pub Crawl, she had taken a liking to the man. He was good company and good for conversation, along with being very handsome. She was sure that by now, the two were friends, but the more she thought about him, the more she felt like she cared about him a bit more than that. She needed some time out with him to confirm that, and this was that time. She felt she could endure the slight eerie nature of the Walk enough in order to find out if there was some chemistry there.

Dani wasn't one for fancy clothes, but she did wear a nice blouse and some nice slacks, along with some low-heeled shoes. She put on a bit of make-up as well as her mother's suggestion. She had tried to tell her mom that Kieran was not her boyfriend at the moment, but her mom seemed very excited about the possibility of Dani finally dating again. Currently, Dani was awaiting Kieran where the Walk would take place.

Kieran was not in a good state. It had been a terrible week ever since he'd been physically attacked by Zoe's brother... the man that had bullied him at school for years. Well, it was never going to end well when he eventually found out Kieran had been dating his little sister for the past three months. That night had ended with a visit to the hospital after taking a nasty blow to his eye and his nose. Thankfully there was no real damage done, although he was now still sporting a black eye which was slowly healing but was clearly still evident. He didn't care about that, it wasn't the first time he'd been in a fight and come away with a black eye. The fighting was nothing compared to what he'd done to Zoe. He'd suddenly turned cold and despite her telling him how she'd fallen for him, he ended things with her there and then. It had been a horrible, cold hearted thing to do especially when he knew deep down he had crazy feelings for her. But he did what he always did, got scared and walked away before anything further could develop.

Less than a week later he was on a date with someone else.

Was he on the rebound? It would seem so, but he just wanted to forget about the whole thing. He'd been moping around all week and needed to get out, the candle light walk seemed like the perfect opportunity for that. Being a local it was something he'd often gone to in the past, not every year, but often enough to know how it worked. Grace was at his mother's house tonight, meaning he had the whole night free. He'd try not to get into anymore fights, he was thirty-five years of age and his mother had still had a go at him when she'd seen the state he was in. Poor Grace had looked at him rather oddly and was getting to an age where she noticed when something wasn't right. For her sake he'd try and be on his best behaviour from now on.

At first he'd planned on going to this candle light walk on his own. Then he changed his mind. For someone who could be a bit of a loner ninety percent of the time, he felt like he needed company. The real reason being because he needed to get Zoe out of his mind. What better way to do so than to spend time with another woman. He could have just gone out to the bar and picked up some stranger but even he had a bit more class than that, especially these days. There was Dani Carello. He'd met her at the bar crawl a while ago and they'd seemed to get on rather well. Without giving it a second thought he sent her a text to see if she was up for the candle light walk... to his surprise, she was. So he agreed to meet her there. He wore jeans and a white t-shirt, covered by a grey zip up hoodie because even though it was mid-May, there was chill in the air. His hood was up as he walked to the meeting place, a face full of stubble having not shaved for the past week... god knows how shady he looked right now with a black eye as well. He found Dani straight away, pulling his hood down as he approached her, "Dani..." he flashed her a smile, it was dark out so he almost hoped she didn't notice the black eye. "It's a delight to see you again" he grinned, Mr. Charmer was in full swing already. "This your first candle light walk?" he asked, she wasn't a local so he assumed it could well be.

Dani was looking around the place as she waited for Kieran. It was odd not being on duty since she had recently gotten so many night shifts. It was almost as if she was still in police-mode as opposed to someone out to have a nice time with a handsome guy. It was a night that she didn't need to worry about any troubles because the other officers could handle it. All she would have to do is call something in as an off-duty officer. Dani tried to tell herself to relax, but it wasn't until she heard Kieran's voice and turned to see him that she did so... that was until she saw the hood pulled up and a little glimpse of his eye. She quickly began to wonder what had happened to the man, but decided it was best not to say anything.

"Hey, nice to see you too," she said. "Guess you went for casual, huh? Was thinkin' of doin' the same, but Mama wasn't havin' it." She then nodded about this being her first walk.

"Yep, been here almost my whole life, and I've never done this before," she said. "Guess it's because I didn't have the company. Got you now though," she said, giving him a smile. "Maybe we can grab some dinner afterward. There's a Chinese place I've been wantin' to try."

It seemed that there were quite a lot of people about, a decent turn out at least. He hadn't done this for at least a couple of years, but it seemed to be usually the locals that took part in it. It was a tradition that not all outsiders would really understand. But he was proud of being a Lochland native so he figured he should show up tonight. He fully expected to get some odd looks because of his black eye but he tended to shrug that kind of thing off, it wasn't anyone's business but his own.

Kieran looked down at his choice of attire, smirking slightly at her comment, he guessed he had gone for the casual look after all. He didn't think that wearing a suit would be quite appropriate and he preferred to dress down in his own time. He did however look Dani up and down, she was actually quite hot. "You look nice, by the way. Almost didn't recognise you without the uniform" he laughed, he could bet that she probably got comments like that a lot outside of her work.

So it was her first candle light walk, "There's a first time for everything" he grinned, he wondered if she was somewhat like him and didn't have an awful lot of company. Except he kind of chose to be that way, preferring to be alone most of the time. "Aw, but I'm sure you have plenty of friends around here, right?" he asked, he figured police officers had to have good people skills. Kieran moved towards where the candles were being handed out, motioning for Dani to join him. He soon found himself nodding his head at the mention of food... he was a typical guy, always hungry. "I'm always up for food" he laughed, he was game for that. Maybe the later he stayed out the more he'd be able to forget about the whole thing with Zoe. He needed to do something to take his mind off it. He took two candles already lit from a woman that was handing them out and then he passed one to Dani, "Here, take this. I guess we just follow everyone else" he grinned, trying to see where the crowds were headed.

Dani blushed a good bit when Kieran said that she looked nice. She probably did a terrible job with trying to hide it too. She really wasn't used to a guy telling her that. Then again, Kieran had a point. She probably looked pretty different in the uniform and without as much make-up.

"Thanks," she said. "And even in the casual, you're still pretty darn handsome." Even with the black eye, he was too.

Dani shrugged about having friends around town.

"Yeah, I got a lotta friends and all," she said. "It's just that I ain't always had a lotta time for social engagements and all that. I got work of course, and I try to spend some time out with mom. Usually, aside from that, I hit the local pub with the other officers after work and we have a few beers. Now and then some friends wanna take me out shoppin' or for tea or whatever, but I ain't really into all that. I've never been accused of bein' real feminine. Result of livin' with a dad and brother in uniform a good bit of my life I guess."

Dani smiled about the food thing, and then took a candle.

"Let's do this thing," she sighed. Now that they were actually doing the walk, Dani kind of wished they were already heading to the restaurant. "Kinda messed up in a way, ain't it? Walkin' around at night and hearin' about a serial killer's victims?"

What man didn't like being told he was handsome? He at least tried not to let it go to his head, but obviously it was always an ego boost when someone complimented your looks. He welcomed the comment from her although tried not to make a big deal out of it and instead tried to make a joke regarding it. "I've seen better days" he smirked, making a reference to the black eye which he was actually surprised she hadn't mentioned yet. Honestly, he didn't care if she did, it was fairly hard to miss after all and naturally she had to be curious over what had happened.

She had a lot of friends, so that was more than he could say for himself. There were people around here he was friendly with, but he didn't particularly refer to them as 'friends'. He wouldn't feel comfortable enough opening up to them. No, there was just Zoe and he'd gone and completely messed that up. He laughed slightly at her comment about not wanting to go out shopping with friends. "It's not often I meet women that don't like shopping" he laughed, it was unfair to stereotype every woman, but in his experience the ones he met at least seemed to enjoy it. Being a man he didn't really see the attraction, it depended what he was shopping for he supposed. He preferred to go in knowing what he wanted and come out as quick as he could "I know how it is though, I don't have a lot of time for socialising. Not with a full time business and being a single parent... I just about have time to sleep for a few hours" he said, it sure was a challenge, but it wasn't really like he'd ever had much of a social life before Grace had come along anyway.

Kieran looked down at his candle as they walked slowly, following the people in front of them. "It's a bit creepy when you say it out loud like that" he chuckled, he supposed people not local to Lochland might find it quite odd. "If you think this is messed up you should try going to one of those Robert Lewis parties" the idea of it made him shudder. Being a local he'd gone to one once... back in his teens. It was an experience he didn't really want to repeat, not when half the school bullies had been there. "You're lucky you're not on duty tonight, put it that way" he smirked, he was sure that teens these days got up to far worse than they had done in his day.

Since Kieran acknowledged the black eye, Dani felt it was okay to say something about it, though she still had some plans to pry.

"Nah, even with that, you're still pretty good lookin'," she chuckled. "I've seen a lot of those on my job. A little ice and time and it'll be gone."

Dani shrugged about shopping.

"I mean, I like it okay and all," she said. "I just don't like shoppin' for a lot of the stuff most women do, or shoppin' too long. A fund day off for me is usually takin' mama to the movies or havin' a nice jog in the park." She then smiled. "And hangin' out with a nice guy like you of course."

Dani could understand why Kieran didn't have a lot of time. He imagined a job and being a full-time dad was pretty trying.

"Well, I'm glad you had some time for me," she said. "But if ya gotta rush home or anything for your kid, I understand."

Dani smirked at how what she said sounded creepy, and about how messed up the Robert Lewis Parties were.

"Yeah, guess I did kinda make it sound creepy," she said. "And I doubt you'll see me at any of those parties... unless I gotta arrest someone who's gotten a bit too drunk." She then nodded about not being on duty, and gave Kieran a warm smile. "I feel very lucky tonight."

At least Dani didn't exactly seem to be too put off by the black eye. Not like his mother who had been horrified, demanding to know what had happened. He didn't know why she'd been so surprised, it wasn't exactly the first time he'd wandered home with a black eye. He'd probably lost count of how many times it had happened. "I've had a few in my time" he commented, shrugging his shoulders lightly, trying not to make too much of a fuss about it.

Kieran smiled at her... oh boy, she was full of compliments. Ones that came off slightly flirtatious, so he had to watch himself. He didn't feel like a nice guy right now. Nice guys didn't get into stupid fights. Nice guys didn't ditch their girlfriends just because they were too scared to fall in love. He felt like a right asshole right now, but he did what he did best and moved on. "Well, you are full of compliments aren't you?" he grinned, he knew he wasn't a bad person but he didn't really see himself as an all round nice guy. "If I'm honest, I'm not really Mr Popular around here. I've never been much of a people person" he shrugged, he knew how to throw the charm on, but ninety percent of the time he'd rather just be by himself.

"My mom's looking after her tonight, so she's in safe hands" he smiled, he didn't use babysitters for the simple reason he just found it difficult to trust people, especially with his own daughter. As long as there was no emergency tonight, then he wouldn't need to rush back.

Part of him wondered what kind of craziness went on at those Robert Lewis parties these days. They'd been bad enough back when he'd been a teenager. "I went to one once when I was a teenager... out of curiosity more than anything. It ended up down at the cemetary... how's that for being fucked up? There was a lot of drinking going on, but there were some kids I hated there so I left before the police turned up. I could have been in so much trouble that night" he smirked, should he even be telling her this? Let's not forget she was a police officer. But this was also something that had happened... what... seventeen years ago? "Yes, lucky you indeed... I don't intend on going anywhere near any serial killer parties tonight. My nights out are a bit classier than that now" he chuckled, or at least they were when he actually found the time to go out.

(Sorry for the lateness)

Dani smirked about Kieran having a few black eyes in his time.

"Yeah, I've had some nice bruises myself," she said. "Ya don't get to really know what it's like to be a police officer without'em."

Dani shrugged about the compliments.

"Eh, probably my bad attempt at flirtin'," she said. "Never was much good at that. When I was a teenager, I was pretty blunt, tellin' the guys in my old neighborhood that they had nice butts."

Dani then smiled when Kieran said he wasn't much of a people person.

"Well, I'm good with ya just bein' a one person-person tonight, that person bein' me and all," she joked. "You ain't gotta talk up the town just to impress me."

Dani frowned at the man's story, but was glad that he left before he got into trouble. She really respected him for that.

"Yeah, I ain't never had to pull drunk kids out of a graveyard at night," she said. "Don't wanna first time for that either. Glad you avoided some trouble."

Dani was also glad to hear that his nights out were classier.

"Well in that case, I hope this date goes good, so we can do some of those nights out," she said. "You the dinner and dancin' type? I like that kinda stuff."

Flirting usually came naturally to him, at least he didn't tend to really think about it much. He didn't use any of those awful chat up lines, he preferred the natural approach and used his charm to get what he wanted. Nine times out of ten it worked. He chuckled at Dani's statement, "Oh, I can be pretty blunt too. Gets me into a lot of trouble" he smirked, "Though I have a feeling if I went around telling girls they had nice butts I'd just get a slap in the face" he laughed, he wasn't quite that forward. "That's not how I ended up with a black eye by the way" he smirked again, just setting the record straight.

He was definitely more of a one on one person, being around groups of people was slightly overwhelming. It was alright when he was working, but the thought of having to actually socialise in a big group of people almost filled him with dread.

"Yeah, it's a bit disrespectful... I mean, having a party in a graveyard" he said, he may not have thought about that at the time when he'd been a teenager, but thinking about it now made him realise how stupid it was. But anyway, teenagers would carry on doing what the hell they wanted, he was quite sure they were even worse today than they had been back in his day.

Now this was where Kieran had to be careful. He had a track record of leading women on, giving them hope, only to ditch them shortly after. Maybe he would never change. "Mhmm... I usually go to those things as a photographer rather than a guest. But yes, they can be fun. It's nice to get dressed up... even if it's just going to a fancy restaurant" he admitted, he did happen to have expensive taste sometimes as well. "When I get the chance that is. It's not so easy anymore. I'll settle for Netflix and a pizza" he laughed, that reminded him of Zoe and so he quickly changed the subject. "Looks like a good turnout tonight" he said, looking around at the crowd that were all currently walking in the same direction with candles of their own. "I like it when the whole community comes together. Makes you feel part of something" he said, he was sure it wasn't like that in a lot of places such as the big cities, so he felt proud to come from a small town that did things like this.

Dani chuckled about Kieran telling girls they have nice butts and how it wasn't the reason for his black eye.

"Yeah, can't say I'd be happy if some random guy told me that," she said. "But knowin' you and all now, eh I wouldn't mind so much if you threw my backside a little compliment. I mean, I do work out and all."

She then nodded about it being disrespectful to have a party in a graveyard.

"I agree there," she said. "Kids can be weird like that though. Back in New York, there was this abandoned hospital. Some college kids around the area thought it was haunted, and they'd do some pretty wild stuff there. It was a good thing that I busted them before this crazy drug addict who was livin' there got to'em. I doubt they've been back there since."

Dani chuckled about Netflix and pizza.

"How about a classic movie and some homemade spaghetti?" she asked. "Mama's goin' out for the night next Saturday, and it kinda sucks hangin' around the house alone."

Dani smiled and nodded about the community. Despite the morbid atmosphere, it was nice seeing people together.

"Yeah, I like it too," she said. "It's nice to go to these things. I mean, if it hadn't been for that Pub Crawl, I wouldn't have met you."

Not all women were the same, some appreciated comments like that whilst others took offence to it. He was pretty confident when it came to giving compliments, if he saw something he liked about a woman then he thought they should know about it. If anything it boosted their self esteem and made them feel better about themselves. He smirked slightly at Dani's comment and nodded his head, "Noted" he grinned, he wasn't an outrageous flirt but he did have his moments.

Kieran raised his eyebrow as she spoke about the kids back in New York. "Wow. I guess kids just don't understand the dangers. They're curious, I get that... but it only takes a second for things to go badly wrong" he shrugged, hearing about all the things teenagers got up to nowadays made him worry even more about his daughter. What if she grew up and got into the wrong crowd? If he brought her up well he really hoped that wouldn't happen but being a father he felt there was so much to be worried about.

"Sneaking guys back when your mother's out, eh?" he teased her, a small chuckle following. "That sounds good though. As long as my mom doesn't mind looking after Grace for the evening" he said, she never had a problem with babysitting, he was sure she'd do it full time if she had the chance but he still didn't like to rely on her for it.

Kieran nodded his head as he thought back to that pub crawl. "Yeah... that pub crawl was an experience to say the least" he laughed, "If I hadn't ended up talking to you that day I would have just gone home - it seemed my uncle was having a brilliant time without me anyway" he grinned, he still wasn't sure why he'd really dragged Kieran along.

Dani wasn't going to go overboard with the butt thing. She made it clear that she welcomed such compliments from Kieran because she had come to really like him. She just smiled at him when he said "noted".

Dani sighed and nodded about how it only took a second for things to go wrong.

"And the sad thing is, the police can't always be there in that second," she said. "It wasn't all that often that we arrived too late, but it happened. We're dedicated officers, but we ain't superheroes."

Dani laughed a little about sneaking guys in the house.

"You kiddin' me?" she said. "Mama encourages it. She's just happy that I'm hangin' out with a guy right now." Dani then smiled when Kieran liked the idea. "Hope it can work then. I got some movies I've bought, but haven't watched yet. I figure they're more fun to watch with someone."

Dani smirked about how Kieran would have gone home if she hadn't been around.

"Sometimes things just fall into place that way," she said. She then looked about as they walked. For something that she thought was going to be a bit eerie, it was actually sort of interesting. "I can't imagine bein' an officer here back when Robert Lewis was around. I never dealt with a serial killer, even in New York."

Kieran nodded his head at Dani, no one could expect the police to attend a scene the second something happened. Though really, that would be fantastic if they did! But also unrealistic. They tried their best. "Well... respect. You guys put yourselves on the line for the rest of us" he smiled, it wasn't something he could do himself, he'd always thought he was a bit selfish. Though it wasn't just that, he just knew he'd never be able to deal with the things they had do.

He didn't talk to his own mother much about what he got up to and who he dated. She knew it was probably best not to ask. Considering he'd only had one serious girlfriend in his thirty-five years she'd more than likely given up on the idea of him settling down. "Movie nights are fun. As long as you're not gonna bore me with chick flicks" he teased, she really didn't strike him as at type, if she wasn't into shopping he had a pretty good feeling she wasn't into soppy boy meets girl movies either. Then again, he could be wrong. It seemed most women were just hopeless romantics at heart.

Some people were really freaked out over the whole Robert Lewis history, even going so far as wondering in Lochland was really a safe place to live. He took no notice of it, it could have happened anywhere. "I know... I can't really imagine what it would have been like growing up in that era. But there have been a few murders here in recent years... people get scared it's happening again. I don't know. It's a little unsettling knowing there could be a serial killer on the loose, but I guess I don't really give it much thought" he shrugged, should he? Maybe if he was a single young female living on her own he would be a little worried, but it honestly wasn't something that crossed his mind until another body just so happened to turn up somewhere in town.

Dani smiled and nodded about what the police did do. She was glad Kieran supported that. Not everyone did.

"That we do," she said. "Well we try our best to anyway. Glad you see things that way."

Dani laughed when Kieran said he didn't want to watch chick flicks.

"You do not need to worry about that, trust me," she said. "I inherited my dad's taste in movies. You like action, adventure, sci-fi, you're set. I've been thinkin' of doin' a James Bond marathon one night if you're game."

Dani groaned a little upon hearing about the recent murders. The police department had their hands full with those, and more than a few time, she wondered if a Robert Lewis copycat was trying to start a another killing spree. The thought scared her. She read about what a monster the man was. She didn't know if she could face off with someone like that and not lose her temper. Losing one's temper was not a good thing in police work. It caused one to lack focus.

"Yeah, wish I could go more into how those are bein' handled, but murder investigations are kind of a hush-hush thing," she said. "And yeah, best not to over-think on it, especially on a nice date like this." She then looked around and sighed. "To be honest, I'll be glad when this whole thing is over." She gave Kieran a smirk. "Hope I ain't comin' off as bein' a bit too fast, but I kinda want to have you to myself right now... at least at a dinner table."
