It was late evening when Colton finally rolled up at the apartments. He was beat. Except this time it was all mental and not so much physical, although he did have that same familiar ache in his leg and hip. He sat in his car for what had to be at least five minutes, staring at the steering wheel, thinking to himself that he needed to shut the car off and go inside. But that meant .... doing so. It would require physical movement.

Still, even after he had shut the car off, he sat. It was starting to get warm out in the evenings and this evening was no different. It took the car less than three minutes to reach an internal temperature that he deemed somewhat uncomfortable and that in itself was enough motivation for him to finally push his door open and exit the car. He shut the door with a firm push, walking around the back of the car and up to the sidewalk once he'd used his key fob to lock the doors.

He stared at the deep green with a distant expression, slowwwwly pulling his gaze from it before he decided that he hadn't anything within the car that needed to come into the house. The t-tops were on and locked, the trunk was locked, there was nothing left in it that was valuable. His gun was still in his holster since he was still in full uniform. Nope. No reason to unlock the car again.

He took the same path he always did to get to his his apartment, and that meant cutting through the courtyard like area where the pool was. He hadn't been lieing when he'd said he wasn't even aware that the Winghaven apartments had a pool. He'd never had a reason to go down to it since he had only lived there a few months less than he had been injured. Metal pins in leg and all that kept him out of the pool.

The bruise on his face was long faded pretty well at this point and the only remainder of it was a small red patch under his left eye just by his nose.

It was her day off and she was so thoroughly relaxed. Nobody was around, and Minnie had been pampering herself in a rare display of sun-bathing. She’d lathered on SPF 60 then settled down on her stomach on one of the complimentary pool chairs. It was the evening hours before she’d heard anyone. The sound was almost disappointing. She sat up slowly, starting to fiddle with her un-hitched bikini top when she spied Colton making his way towards his building. The sight immediately changed her attitude.

Getting to her feet, she held on tight to the unfastened fabric and made a few quick steps in his direction before calling out his name. ”Officer Spade, what a pleasure to see you.” Her voice was pleasant, welcoming. Her wild black and blond tresses floated gracefully along her back and shoulders as she slowed, taking her tine when she figured she had been notice. ”You are just in time. I desperately need your ‘elp.” In a matter of speaking.

The dazed look on the man's face worried her slightly. She was curious, but didn’t pry.

”Could you be so kind as to re-connect my top? I was sun bat’ing, and the sun ‘as mostly gone away. T’is silly bikini refuses to work. Just took at it! no support.” she did not wiggle to give an example, she knew she didn’t have to. Her arms were very carefully holding up the round, barely covered mounds of her breasts. It didn’t take much for anyone to use a little imagination. "... please?" There were moments where she could not have set things up better if she had tried.

It was safe to say Colton had been off in his own world. He was as dazed as Minuit thought he looked and soon a look of concentration had crossed his face. He had looked down as he walked with the usual limp, frowning. Was his cane in the car still...? It was. But it wasn't like he only had the one and he found himself mid-internal debate about going back for it when the call of his name cut the air.

He looked up, stared to his right, then looked left in search of a body to tack onto the voice. The voice itself was familiar, he knew who it was in an instant but the usual grin or smile that came along with it took several seconds longer to form. Even after he had smiled there seemed something off about it, it was likely a friendly smile reserved for on the work encounters. Often such a smile was referred to as a Retail Smile, because the people giving it to you weren't really all that interested in knowing you, only helping you so they could get back to their job. "Minuit." She approached him by a few steps and Colton couldn't help but look down when she mentioned her predicament. "Ah-" He hesitated, appeared to stare at her breasts a second longer, then closed his eyes before he looked back up and breathed in, "Of course." His attention turned to the fence between them and his eyes traveled down the length of it to the gate before he turned towards it and walked it's length while speaking, "What sort of Officer would I be if I didn't respond to a Civilian in distress?" His voice, now with a hint of humor to it, sounded a little more lively than he looked.

It wasn't until he opened the gate and stepped through it that he had started to give a more sincere smile, "I'm sure it'd give the neighbors plenty to talk about, at the very least." He was aware that most people would have something to say about an Officer in uniform assisting a woman with her bikini. People were like that. They liked nothing more than to talk about other people and feed any wild rumors already running around. He tilted his head after coming to a stop beside her, "That is a problem, ins't it? No support at all." But was he upset about that? Uh, no. No he was not.

He made a soft motion with his hand that suggested she should turn so he could assist her.

Oooh he was really inside his head today. If breasts weren’t sparking Colton’s usual energy, then he needed more than an unfastened bikini to make it right. Minnie would have to think this through. "What sort of Officer would I be if I didn't respond to a Civilian in distress?" A boring one. "I'm sure it'd give the neighbors plenty to talk about, at the very least." She’d given up caring a long time ago, but she prefered a bikini that gave support. That is a problem, ins't it? No support at all." Glad he noticed. She would have been disappointed otherwise.

Turning around so he could fix her suit, Minnie’s eyes looked up at the sky as she tried hard to come up with something interesting. There were few things that had really caught her attention this week, and one of them had been a carnival happening a town over. Hmmm.. that could be interesting. ”Officer Spade, are you free tonight?” She never was one to beat around the bush... unless it entertained her. ”I ‘eard about t’is place t’at was supposed to be quiet fun.” She peeked over her shoulder, waiting for him to finish then adjusted herself to sit comfortably. Her hands were still on her breasts as she turned to face him, smoothing the fabric along her collerbone.

”My ‘ero.”

Now...

”Would you mind stopping by my apartment in about... Mmm.. two hours? Plenty of time to take off t’at 'eavy badge and relax.” Just long enough for him to unwind and enough time for her to wash her hair. ”All you need is some comfortable clot’es and you. Brownie points for flowers, but I won’t ‘old it against you on a first date.” The words ‘first date’ tended to make anyone nervous. She used them with meaning, sultry green eyes looking hi mover with interest.

Colton reached out without hesitating once Minuit had turned, his hands going right for the straps that needed wrangling. His fingertips might have brushed along her back once or twice but it was purely by accident, it just happened as he was tieing her off. During the moment she had peeked over her shoulder Colton had been staring at her back, assumidly focused on what he was doing. In reality he found a woman's back to be rather sexy. Just the curve of the body in general. Something Colt never could place his finger on why it tended to get to him.

As much as he would have wanted to linger, the knots were tied and his hands fell away as Minuit turned. What had she been saying? He had not been listening, and the blank expression he wore when she first turned was a dead give away that he felt like he'd been caught doing something he shouldn't have. Like, say, staring down her backside. It was difficult not to stare at Minuit, and while her profession usually had plenty of people staring at her, Colton really was trying not to do too much of it.

Was it rude to stare at a dancer outside of her work?

Wait, first date?

He seemed to snap back to reality and straightened up, "Two hours," He replied, smiling softly. As if his subconscious had been listening the whole time he was able to gather up more or less what Minuit had been talking about. Going out somewhere, dressing comfortable, two hours, her place. Bonus points for flowers. First date.

Colt had to admit he'd never had a woman make the first plan, but Minuit was proving to be total opposite nearly in everything. It was refreshing. But he was willing to bet there was a level of stubbornness he hadn't even seen the likes of yet.

Her green eyes had his attention better than her breasts had, at that moment, and he hardly missed the look over she'd given him, then again he wasn't sure it was meant to be missed at all.

She wove her words with gentle sweetness, well aware that the poor man was worn out. Minnie would have taken no for an answer. She wasn’t afraid of the word. After all, everyone needed their alone time. For all she knew he had his own spectacular bubble bath planned with some lavender scented oils and soothing old age jazz. ”Is t’at a yes?” She coohed, green eyes searching for some spark, some interest in his tired face. ”You are welcome to decline at any time. I’m a big girl and I know t’at even ‘andsome men need t’eir rest as much as t’e plain ones.”

With a flutter of her fingers, Minnie waved goodbye and headed past him towards her apartment. She’d set a time without even knowing what time it was. She figured they had talked for perhaps 3 minutes. Once she knew her deadline she’d know what she had time to do. Knowing where they were going made things interesting. If she had known him better she might have twisted it all up in a sexy little bow, but as it was she was determined to let their inner child out tonight.

Outfit

An hour and 57 minutes later she was almost ready to go. Her hair was done, her outfit was on, and she laid in a chair lazily blowing on her newly painted nails. It was only recently that she realized how much she loved nailpolish. The designs, the tips, the elegance; enjoyed them all. She wanted to get a cute little kit so she could start being fancy on her own instead of going out for a mani-pedi every few weeks. It would have been cost effective.. but.... she did enjoy the massage. How cute the gold color would be with little poke-dots. Her eyes glanced at the time thoughtfully then reached over to check her phone.

”Hmmm.. No text or call.” She hoped he hadn’t passed out face first on his bed. It had been a long time since anyone had stood her up.

Left standing beside the pool with only a slight grin, Colton watched Minuit go until she was blocked from view. He was tired. He was numb, in some ways. But the prospect of going out with Minuit was one that he wasn't about to pass up on, regardless of his current physical state.

He walked himself the rest of the way to his apartment and spent the first hour where he had crashed upon entry: his couch. He stared at the television across from himself for nearly that full hour, thinking of absolutely nothing. It wasn't until ten minutes till the hour that he turned his head towards his room and, taking a deep breath, considered his medications. If he were going out, it was probably best if he prepared for that. Both by getting himself clean, dressed, and presentable, and by taking care of other needs before they became worse. Namely the pain in his leg.

So he did just that. Finally willing himself off the couch he made his way into his room and, grabbing a bottle of water which always sat on his bedside table, took the lowest grade of pain medication he had. He didn't want to obliterate his consciousness into a medicated sleep. Next step was getting cleaned up and dressed. It didn't take him long to get ready once he'd finally comitted to doing so, and once he was done he sat down at his desk and pulled a few sheets of colored paper towards himself.

With roughly ten minutes to spare he finally sending Minuit a text. Well first he stared at the phone like an idiot before finally texting her he'd be over shortly.

---------

Just as he had promised Colt arrived shortly after his text had been sent. Living in the same apartment complex had it's benefits. He knocked on the door and waited for Minuit to answer, glancing upwards when the lights on the exterior of the apartment flicked on all along the building.

Distracted by the evening lights, Colt might have missed any sounds from the interior that told him the door was about to open. Luckily most doors swung inward, so he wasn't worried about being smacked by a door. But even as distracted as he was momentarily, he still had his hand up and a small gift ready to be presented. It would have taken a miracle to get out and find a florist open at this hour, even if it wasn't exactly late. Then finding a florist that wasn't going to cost an arm and leg for something not romantic was going to be a challenge as well. And forget about having to pick the flowers out and get back home to get ready. He'd been a bit too brain dead for that earlier.

But what he was able to do, after officially coming out of his haze, was make Minuit a cluster of three origami flowers, two dark blue and one light lavender. They were delicate, with thin stems and finely pressed creases. If Colt hadn't had well over a year to practice paper craft while being propped up in his bed they might have been a lesser quality of work. As it was he'd had plenty of time and as such had perfected his craft. It would have been hard to spot his among an assortment of professionals.

The soft sound of her phone going off startled her. For a moment Minnie thought something had happened at Stilettos, but it was her date. ”So ‘e did manage to wake up.” Her features warmed, pleased. ”I do ‘ope he loves surprises.” Now slightly restless, she got to her feet and went to tidy up her make up collection until she heard him knocking. It didn’t take long. Her eyes did a once over around the living room before she opened the door.

Flowers! ”Ohhh... Mister Spade, you didn’t tell me t’at you were such a lady killer. Brownie points for creativity. The woman murmured, a heavenly sigh escaping her lips. ”I ‘ave ‘eard of pressing flowers to preserve t’em, but I t’ink t’at won’t be necessary.” Reaching out, she let her fingers caress his. ”Mind if I take t’em inside? I t’ink I know the perfect place for t’em.” Her hands squeezed gently, relieving him of the beautiful little gift she was certain he made himself. ”I’m impressed. It isn’t every day someone gives me art.” In a few seconds she stold the flowers and stepped back through the doorway towards her living room.

”Come in, come in. I won’t be long, but I t’ink you earned yourself a glance at my apartment.” The delicate flowers were settled over a tiny shelf that had nothing on it but a candle. The living room was tidy with beautiful white leather couches and a small matching shaggy run under the coffee table. The lighting was somewhat low. Save for the shelf the walls were completely bare, but a set of large frames faced the wall near the window. There wasn’t a television to be found. There was, however, a pole like the ones at stilettos. ”Can I get you a drink?” It took her a moment to arrange the flowers, quite careful with the folds. ”I ‘ave tea, coffee, wine. I’m out of milk.”

The flowers were released, Colton smiling softly as Minuit's fingers brushed his own. "You look dressed for a fun time." Since he was still oblivious to what they were actually doing, Colton could only make a wild guess at what the night would hold. He had dressed comfortably, as instructed, and even scored a few bonus points with bringing flowers. Well, sort of.

He stepped into the apartment and during a cursory glance around his attention was caught by the pole. It shouldn't have surprised him to see it there, but on some level he was still surprised by it. Maybe it was just the fact it was so front and center in the living room. It wasn't anything to dwell on and think too much about. The apartment was well kept- tidy, clean, organized. At least from what he could see. The white leather couches looked in near predestine condition and Colton found himself wondering if they ever seen much use. "No thank you," He was mindful to close the door softly behind himself, keeping it from shutting too hard. "You have a beautiful home," He followed Minuit just far enough into the apartment to avoid lingering at the door while waiting for the woman to do whatever she needed.

Her apartment, of course, was not the only thing Colt had noticed. Minuit had put the time into her outfit and he'd be damned if he didn't appreciate it on some level. She looked fit to model for a retro styled pinup.

The floral scented candle she had bought last week was now perfectly decorated. Who knew that Officer Spade was so good with his fingers. "You have a beautiful home. Minnie’s expression turned mildly mischievous as she turned to face him. ”Why t’ank you. I’m a big believer in keeping good t’ings in my life. Quality over quantity. She stepped around the pole in the middle of her living room and returned to him with a graceful gesture of her fingertips back towards his gift. ”I t’ink your gift will fit right in. I’m fond of a little art in my life. My fat’er was an artist.” The fact that she had some of his art waiting to be put up sent a quiet thrill through her, but she didn’t mention it.

”Some day, if you are on good be’avior I’ll give you a full tour of my apartment...” She stopped to pick up her purse then headed back towards her date and the door. ”Granted, I’m all for bad be’avior too. I ‘appen to be flexible.” Minnie was determined to keep him entertained. The look she’d seen on his face earlier had concerned her. ”So, shall I lead the way?” The jeans he had on looked more than good. She would have been completely happy with letting him lead, but she was determined to drive tonight. ”I ‘ear i’m fun to follow.” The woman winked, opening the door with a graceful movement of her hand before backing out the door with a beckoning finger in the air.

"I'm glad you like it," He took a step back as she began in his direction again, "I can't say I could tell you one thing about art besides the difference between a Monet and a Van Gogh, but I could admire it as much as the next man." Even then he was pretty sure if it hadn't been for his youngest sister he wouldn't have been able to tell even those two artists apart. Art had just never taken a real dominate part in his life. "Perhaps you could show me some of his art sometime, educate me on the matter a little more."

”Some day, if you are on good be’avior I’ll give you a full tour of my apartment...”
”Granted, I’m all for bad be’avior too. I ‘appen to be flexible.”

"I'm always on the best of behavior," Playfully spoken as he watched her retrive her purse on the way back, stepping aside to allow the woman ample room when walking to the door.

”So, shall I lead the way?”

"By all means,"

”I ‘ear i’m fun to follow.”

There was no reply he could have forced himself to give that hadn't sounded sleazy in his head, so he merely smirked as he followed Minnie out of her apartment and waited patiently as she presumably locked the place up.

He was still struggling to entirely shake the mood he had been in earlier but it would pass with time. Medication and fine company would see to that. And if for some reason it didn't, his Shrink was probably going to have some more than the usual amount of questions for him at one of their scheduled meetings.

"Do you plan to keep the mystery up until we arrive at our destination, then?"

She didn’t normally bother with dates. Minnie was more fond of getting to know people, and picky about who she became close to. They had to be worth her time. The fact she’d decided to go on a date with Colton at all was a carefully thought out notion. She’d been thinking about him every once in a while since they’d last met. He had a good sense of humor, and there was something naughty about him that she found exciting. Her eyes were full of promises as she be-conned him to follow her out the door, motioning to him with a finger. She was hardly disarmed without her high heels and flashy lipstick.

"Do you plan to keep the mystery up until we arrive at our destination, then?"

A good question.

As she locked her door, Minnie hummed a soft yet triumphant little sound. It was hardly an answer. ”I promised you fun, Officer spade.” She murmured, slipping the key into her bag as she closed the distance between them. A lonely foot's worth of space. ”You are welcome to arrest me if you don’t t’ink I lived up to my promise.” Her eyes searched his for a moment before she winked at him, turning towards the exit. ”T’en again, maybe we should stick to more innocent t’oughts. I’m starting to ponder the creative t’ings I can do wit’ a pair of cuffs.” The woman timed her steps to be just in front of him. Not only did it let him watch her, but he could see exactly where they were going. It took away the awkward situation of trying to find her car.

Minuit’s car was a camaro; Red and, by now, several years older than she’d like. Still, it was in good shape. She took care of her toys, and this was no exception. The sound of the doors unlocking was music to her ears. She couldn’t help but glance over her shoulder at Colton flirtatiously, running her fingers worshipfully over the hood of the car. ”We’ll be riding in t’is..... I 'ope t’at is acceptable.” Considering his own car, she had little doubt it would be. ”I don’t usually allow guests in it, but you I’ll make an exception.” She was ready to move.

The woman’s shapely form settled into her seat without issue. She took a moment to shift, watching Colton carefully as he got in. He could take all the time in the world. It was her turn to look him over. After all, he’d followed her out here.

”I promised you fun, Officer spade.”

”You are welcome to arrest me if you don’t t’ink I lived up to my promise.”

"I'll wait for solid evidence," he teased back with a grin, "I don't see you as a woman to let anyone down after committing to a promise." She didn't seem that sort at all. No, Minuit came across to Colton as a woman who knew exactly how to deliver on a promise she'd made. She was a woman with a plan.

”T’en again, maybe we should stick to more innocent t’oughts. I’m starting to ponder the creative t’ings I can do wit’ a pair of cuffs.”

"Ah, You could handcuff me any time."
His grin had turned into a smile. He followed along behind her. It was a rather nice view, then again he was confident that Minuit was a nice view no matter the angle. He glanced down only when they neared the edge of the sidewalk and was careful of his step going down. It only took falling flat on your face once in a brace to learn to watch your step on something as trivial as a curb.

”We’ll be riding in t’is..... I 'ope t’at is acceptable.”

His attention was pulled to the red Camaro, letting out a gentle 'phew' as he did so, "Acceptable? Beautiful car for a beautiful woman." He took a moment to admire the car as much as he had admired Minuit from the back until the locks had clicked and the woman was sliding in.

”I don’t usually allow guests in it, but you I’ll make an exception.”

"I'm honored, then," He said after opening the door. The car was given one last look over- it was well taken care of on the exterior. Obviously stored or kept clean during the cold winters Lochland had. If he were seeing the car further South he would have never guessed it had spent years in a city where the streets were often salted in the winter. His last look of the exterior, standing at the open door, would give Minuit the window she wanted to appraise her guest. Colton would be the first to fess up that he was not the most fashionable, but his jeans were just tight enough to count and his shirts tailored fit.

It was a breeze to get into the Camaro. They weren't so different in height to his Pontiac and while he didn't spend much time in the passenger seat of his own car, he was able to slide in even easier here. Good leg first as he bent down and slid in followed by his injured leg. He was mindful when it came to shutting the door- some cars, such as his own, had exceptionally heavy doors that liked to swing shut extra hard. He didn't want to slam the door. Once in he sat back and offered his date a smile, putting his head back, "I'm jealous, this puts my Bird to shame." He kept it in tip top shape and clean as a whistle on the inside and updated yearly- but could you blame him for flattering over a car?

It was not stretching to say she loved her car. The vehicle was uncomfortable for long trips, but great for the one thing it did well. "I'm jealous, this puts my Bird to shame." Her green eyes widened slightly as if surprised, but she didn’t answer. Her baby was just what she wanted.. at least for now. ”Why t’ank you. I do’nt use it in the winter mont’s or when I travel out of town. During t’is time of year I love it, ‘owever.” With seatbelts on, she cruised out of the parkinglot without looking back.

Minnie was a little less careful than Colton was on their ride. She stopped at every top then took off like a fleeing bird on the wing. The speed hardly went over the speedlimit, however.. at least not until they hit the back roads out of town. I was just t’inking it might be fun to get to know eachot’er a little better. I’ll be nice for now and not expect anyt’ing too personal.” with the lights on high, she glided towards their destination with confidence. ”Somet’ings are best discovered.”

The sunset colored trees shot past them, waving goodbye as her car managed turns with ease. He fingers moved along the steering wheel with tenderness. ”Let’s see.... ah.. When I was younger, I used to put on the sexiest t’ing I ‘ad and went driving. Naughty little t’igh ‘igh stockings, garters, lacy little bras t’at ... well, you get the point.” Her laugh danced through the car musically, covering up the amusement she felt for describing herself like a doll she had dressed rather than her own body. ”The thrill of the drive and the naughty feeling I felt.. it was a sort of ‘igh. Just.. being out t’ere and defying what t’e world wanted from me.” Sometimes she imagined her ex with her, but he didn’t know need to know that. This was a date and she wanted him to feel as special as he was. "Your turn."

It wasn't hard to imagine, as Minuit recanted her memory of being younger. Colton had shifted so his body was tilted more to better face the woman rather than his attention being outside the car.

"Hhm, I don't think I have anything quite as naughty as that." Lair. He was lieing through his teeth. He'd popped out of cake once at a bachorlorette party, back when he was in college. But that was a secret he hadn't shared with a single soul in the world, maybe he'd share that with Minuit, but not right this second. He watched as the world whipped past them with her speeds increasing once they hit the back roads. Just the fib of not having such a memory brought the memory up and caused him to grin a little to himself at it. "Eheh, uh, let see..." He shared a different story instead, "I used to get into all sorts of trouble when I was younger." He shrugged his hands. Mean who didn't get into trouble when they were younger?

"I don't think I could count on both hands the number of times my Uncle drove me home in the back of his squad car... stupid shit, mostly. Smoking, drinking underage. But for all the times I was caught there at least ten times each that I wasn't, maybe more." He brushed his hand over his mouth as he laughed at the idea of having been such a pain in his mother's ass. "Anyway, On a dare my friend Abel and I climbed to the top of the McGleary's Barn," Was that barn still there? Had the farm been sold off and torn down? He sort of wanted to check. "My older brother Dorien, who was more often than not our enabler, had us aim for this huuuge hay stack in a cart. Well we jumped, Abel hit the stack square in the middle 'n my dumb ass hit the cart instead."

"Broke my right leg in two places and cracked three ribs. Lucky I didn't break my neck." Morbidly he found it somewhat funny. Who'd have known some ten years later he'd break it again and then some.

The car was a smooth ride- a fast one, too. The speed and conversation had a grin fixed into place on his face. There was always the worry of a random deer darting across these back roads, but that wasn't at the forefront of his mind right then.
