It was late evening when Colton finally rolled up at the apartments. He was beat. Except this time it was all mental and not so much physical, although he did have that same familiar ache in his leg and hip. He sat in his car for what had to be at least five minutes, staring at the steering wheel, thinking to himself that he needed to shut the car off and go inside. But that meant .... doing so. It would require physical movement.

Still, even after he had shut the car off, he sat. It was starting to get warm out in the evenings and this evening was no different. It took the car less than three minutes to reach an internal temperature that he deemed somewhat uncomfortable and that in itself was enough motivation for him to finally push his door open and exit the car. He shut the door with a firm push, walking around the back of the car and up to the sidewalk once he'd used his key fob to lock the doors.

He stared at the deep green with a distant expression, slowwwwly pulling his gaze from it before he decided that he hadn't anything within the car that needed to come into the house. The t-tops were on and locked, the trunk was locked, there was nothing left in it that was valuable. His gun was still in his holster since he was still in full uniform. Nope. No reason to unlock the car again.

He took the same path he always did to get to his his apartment, and that meant cutting through the courtyard like area where the pool was. He hadn't been lieing when he'd said he wasn't even aware that the Winghaven apartments had a pool. He'd never had a reason to go down to it since he had only lived there a few months less than he had been injured. Metal pins in leg and all that kept him out of the pool.

The bruise on his face was long faded pretty well at this point and the only remainder of it was a small red patch under his left eye just by his nose.

It was her day off and she was so thoroughly relaxed. Nobody was around, and Minnie had been pampering herself in a rare display of sun-bathing. She’d lathered on SPF 60 then settled down on her stomach on one of the complimentary pool chairs. It was the evening hours before she’d heard anyone. The sound was almost disappointing. She sat up slowly, starting to fiddle with her un-hitched bikini top when she spied Colton making his way towards his building. The sight immediately changed her attitude.

Getting to her feet, she held on tight to the unfastened fabric and made a few quick steps in his direction before calling out his name. ”Officer Spade, what a pleasure to see you.” Her voice was pleasant, welcoming. Her wild black and blond tresses floated gracefully along her back and shoulders as she slowed, taking her tine when she figured she had been notice. ”You are just in time. I desperately need your ‘elp.” In a matter of speaking.

The dazed look on the man's face worried her slightly. She was curious, but didn’t pry.

”Could you be so kind as to re-connect my top? I was sun bat’ing, and the sun ‘as mostly gone away. T’is silly bikini refuses to work. Just took at it! no support.” she did not wiggle to give an example, she knew she didn’t have to. Her arms were very carefully holding up the round, barely covered roundness of her breasts. It didn’t take much for anyone to use a little imagination. "... please?" There were moments where she could not have set things up better if she had tried.

It was safe to say Colton had been off in his own world. He was as dazed as Minuit thought he looked and soon a look of concentration had crossed his face. He had looked down as he walked with the usual limp, frowning. Was his cane in the car still...? It was. But it wasn't like he only had the one and he found himself mid-internal debate about going back for it when the call of his name cut the air.

He looked up, stared to his right, then looked left in search of a body to tack onto the voice. The voice itself was familiar, he knew who it was in an instant but the usual grin or smile that came along with it took several seconds longer to form. Even after he had smiled there seemed something off about it, it was likely a friendly smile reserved for on the work encounters. Often such a smile was referred to as a Retail Smile, because the people giving it to you weren't really all that interested in knowing you, only helping you so they could get back to their job. "Minuit." She approached him by a few steps and Colton couldn't help but look down when she mentioned her predicament. "Ah-" He hesitated, appeared to stare at her breasts a second longer, then closed his eyes before he looked back up and breathed in, "Of course." His attention turned to the fence between them and his eyes traveled down the length of it to the gate before he turned towards it and walked it's length while speaking, "What sort of Officer would I be if I didn't respond to a Civilian in distress?" His voice, now with a hint of humor to it, sounded a little more lively than he looked.

It wasn't until he opened the gate and stepped through it that he had started to give a more sincere smile, "I'm sure it'd give the neighbors plenty to talk about, at the very least." He was aware that most people would have something to say about an Officer in uniform assisting a woman with her bikini. People were like that. They liked nothing more than to talk about other people and feed any wild rumors already running around. He tilted his head after coming to a stop beside her, "That is a problem, ins't it? No support at all." But was he upset about that? Uh, no. No he was not.

He made a soft motion with his hand that suggested she should turn so he could assist her.

Oooh he was really inside his head today. If breasts weren’t sparking Colton’s usual energy, then he needed more than an unfastened bikini to make it right. Minnie would have to think this through. "What sort of Officer would I be if I didn't respond to a Civilian in distress?" A boring one. "I'm sure it'd give the neighbors plenty to talk about, at the very least." She’d given up caring a long time ago, but she prefered a bikini that gave support. That is a problem, ins't it? No support at all." Glad he noticed. She would have been disappointed otherwise.

Turning around so he could fix her suit, Minnie’s eyes looked up at the sky as she tried hard to come up with something interesting. There were few things that had really caught her attention this week, and one of them had been a carnival happening a town over. Hmmm.. that could be interesting. ”Officer Spade, are you free tonight?” She never was one to beat around the bush... unless it entertained her. ”I ‘eard about t’is place t’at was supposed to be quiet fun.” She peeked over her shoulder, waiting for him to finish then adjusted herself to sit comfortably. Her hands were still on her breasts as she turned to face him, smoothing the fabric along her collerbone.

”My ‘ero.”

Now...

”Would you mind stopping by my apartment in about... Mmm.. two hours? Plenty of time to take off t’at 'eavy badge and relax.” Just long enough for him to unwind and enough time for her to wash her hair. ”All you need is some comfortable clot’es and you. Brownie points for flowers, but I won’t ‘old it against you on a first date.” The words ‘first date’ tended to make anyone nervous. She used them with meaning, sultry green eyes looking hi mover with interest.

Colton reached out without hesitating once Minuit had turned, his hands going right for the straps that needed wrangling. His fingertips might have brushed along her back once or twice but it was purely by accident, it just happened as he was tieing her off. During the moment she had peeked over her shoulder Colton had been staring at her back, assumidly focused on what he was doing. In reality he found a woman's back to be rather sexy. Just the curve of the body in general. Something Colt never could place his finger on why it tended to get to him.

As much as he would have wanted to linger, the knots were tied and his hands fell away as Minuit turned. What had she been saying? He had not been listening, and the blank expression he wore when she first turned was a dead give away that he felt like he'd been caught doing something he shouldn't have. Like, say, staring down her backside. It was difficult not to stare at Minuit, and while her profession usually had plenty of people staring at her, Colton really was trying not to do too much of it.

Was it rude to stare at a dancer outside of her work?

Wait, first date?

He seemed to snap back to reality and straightened up, "Two hours," He replied, smiling softly. As if his subconscious had been listening the whole time he was able to gather up more or less what Minuit had been talking about. Going out somewhere, dressing comfortable, two hours, her place. Bonus points for flowers. First date.

Colt had to admit he'd never had a woman make the first plan, but Minuit was proving to be total opposite nearly in everything. It was refreshing. But he was willing to bet there was a level of stubbornness he hadn't even seen the likes of yet.

Her green eyes had his attention better than her breasts had, at that moment, and he hardly missed the look over she'd given him, then again he wasn't sure it was meant to be missed at all.

She wove her words with gentle sweetness, well aware that the poor man was worn out. Minnie would have taken no for an answer. She wasn’t afraid of the word. After all, everyone needed their alone time. For all she knew he had his own spectacular bubble bath planned with some lavender scented oils and soothing old age jazz. ”Is t’at a yes?” She coohed, green eyes searching for some spark, some interest in his tired face. ”You are welcome to decline at any time. I’m a big girl and I know t’at even ‘andsome men need t’eir rest as much as t’e plain ones.”

With a flutter of her fingers, Minnie waved goodbye and headed past him towards her apartment. She’d set a time without even knowing what time it was. She figured they had talked for perhaps 3 minutes. Once she knew her deadline she’d know what she had time to do. Knowing where they were going made things interesting. If she had known him better she might have twisted it all up in a sexy little bow, but as it was she was determined to let their inner child out tonight.

An hour and 57 minutes later she was almost ready to go. Her hair was done, her outfit was on, and she laid in a chair lazily blowing on her newly painted nails. It was only recently that she realized how much she loved nailpolish. The designs, the tips, the elegance; enjoyed them all. She wanted to get a cute little kit so she could start being fancy on her own instead of going out for a mani-pedi every few weeks. It would have been cost effective.. but.... she did enjoy the massage. How cute the gold color would be with little poke-dots. Her eyes glanced at the time thoughtfully then reached over to check her phone.

”Hmmm.. No text or call.” She hoped he hadn’t passed out face first on his bed. It had been a long time since anyone had stood her up.

Left standing beside the pool with only a slight grin, Colton watched Minuit go until she was blocked from view. He was tired. He was numb, in some ways. But the prospect of going out with Minuit was one that he wasn't about to pass up on, regardless of his current physical state.

He walked himself the rest of the way to his apartment and spent the first hour where he had crashed upon entry: his couch. He stared at the television across from himself for nearly that full hour, thinking of absolutely nothing. It wasn't until ten minutes till the hour that he turned his head towards his room and, taking a deep breath, considered his medications. If he were going out, it was probably best if he prepared for that. Both by getting himself clean, dressed, and presentable, and by taking care of other needs before they became worse. Namely the pain in his leg.

So he did just that. Finally willing himself off the couch he made his way into his room and, grabbing a bottle of water which always sat on his bedside table, took the lowest grade of pain medication he had. He didn't want to obliterate his consciousness into a medicated sleep. Next step was getting cleaned up and dressed. It didn't take him long to get ready once he'd finally comitted to doing so, and once he was done he sat down at his desk and pulled a few sheets of colored paper towards himself.

With roughly ten minutes to spare he finally sending Minuit a text. Well first he stared at the phone like an idiot before finally texting her he'd be over shortly.

---------

Just as he had promised Colt arrived shortly after his text had been sent. Living in the same apartment complex had it's benefits. He knocked on the door and waited for Minuit to answer, glancing upwards when the lights on the exterior of the apartment flicked on all along the building.

Distracted by the evening lights, Colt might have missed any sounds from the interior that told him the door was about to open. Luckily most doors swung inward, so he wasn't worried about being smacked by a door. But even as distracted as he was momentarily, he still had his hand up and a small gift ready to be presented. It would have taken a miracle to get out and find a florist open at this hour, even if it wasn't exactly late. Then finding a florist that wasn't going to cost an arm and leg for something not romantic was going to be a challenge as well. And forget about having to pick the flowers out and get back home to get ready. He'd been a bit too brain dead for that earlier.

But what he was able to do, after officially coming out of his haze, was make Minuit a cluster of three origami flowers, two dark blue and one light lavender. They were delicate, with thin stems and finely pressed creases. If Colt hadn't had well over a year to practice paper craft while being propped up in his bed they might have been a lesser quality of work. As it was he'd had plenty of time and as such had perfected his craft. It would have been hard to spot his among an assortment of professionals.
