Charles was a bit of a trickster, and one who liked to push buttons as far as he could, but he also knew when he needed to pull back. As much fun as it was to watch Theo resemble a tick about to pop, he didn’t need to ruin his relationship with the man yet. No, there was too much of a future, too much fun, and far too much money that was still within his power to be gained. Detaching himself from Theo’s side, he led the way to the MP3 players to see which he wanted.

In reality Charles was happy with his Zune. It was low maintenance, he was used to it, and it wasn’t like anyone was going to steal it from him. It was a Zune, for god’s sake -- Charles wasn’t stupid. But he wasn’t going to turn down the chance to get something new and high-end for free, now was he?

Once in front of the display case, Charles let his eyes wander over the selection. Immediately his eyes drifted towards the far more expensive items, glancing over the latest generation iPods and the variety of colors. They were all very gorgeous and, judging from what he could read on the boxes, surely capable of everything he needed an MP3 player to do...and much more. Videos, live streaming, it was exactly what he needed to replace his Zune and lessen his need for his phone.

But could he convince Theo to get one for him? He already seemed keen to the idea. Whether it was just becaused Charles had successfully manipulated him into buying one or because he was trying to get the Sioux out of his hair; either way, Charles was happy to get what he wanted. Or, rather, he would be once it was in his hand and not behind that protective glass.

Theo finally wandered over, sarcasm dripping from his lips as he informed Charles of his considerate nature. Still, the Sioux let the tone roll right off his back, like water from a duck’s feathers. ”I like to think I am.” He grinned.

He then pointed out the iPods to Theo and asked which he thought would be best for him. They were all the same; he was merely asking Theo to give the illusion that he gave a shit about the Dane’s opinion. His compliments, however, seemed draw a questioning look from Theo as he asked if he was this flattering to everyone. He smirked, tilted his head, and rubbed his cheek against Theo’s shoulder.

”Only to those who deserve it most, baby.” He then straightened up and nodded to the case again. ”Come on. Pick one. Maybe one that goes best with my eyes?”

It could be argued that after the questionable acts that Theo had committed in the past that he deserved to be misused a little bit. Though he had never done intentional harm to a person he had made it possible for others to behave maliciously and perhaps that was enough. He would have disagreed on the matter and justified his actions accordingly if he were ever confronted on them. However, this was just one of the many reasons that he kept his black market dealings quiet and his actions were not on trial at present.

Neither were Charles' actions and whatever his reasons were he saw fit to try and manipulate things from Theo. The Dane made this feat all too easy now that Charles had figured out that all he had to do was get Theo flustered and his mind was essentially putty to be molded as the dancer pleased. Fortunately, or not, the programmer was oblivious to the selfish desires he was being used to fulfill and had little to complain about so long as his new associate never crossed the line.

He had paused looking over the possible options and made a sarcastic remark that was rewarded with grinning agreement from the Sioux. Without pressing the matter, he moved on to inquire about the man's habit of flattery. The dancer moved impossibly close again, brushing his cheek against the Dane's shoulder so that Theo shifted uncomfortably. "Only to those who deserve it most, baby" Came the answer that was hardly satisfying to his curiosity.

"Come on. Pick one. Maybe one that goes best with my eyes?" He was certain that the other joking about picking one to match his eyes but that didn't stop Theo from noticing the color of them anyway as he motioned for an associate to come retrieve one of the MP3 players for him and indicated that he would like a simple black one. He turned to Charles as the clerk fetched the boxed item from behind the glass. "Come, let us pay for our things." A glance was cast to his watch and then back to his companion. "I would like to be home for lunch." It was still early enough to accommodate picking up a preloaded phone before heading back and that was perfect as far as he was concerned. Without waiting for a response from the other, he took the items he had collected to the checkout counter where the laptop and music player were waiting.

Oh yes. Charles was learning. But he wasn’t taking from the Dane in some odd sense of vengeance for the people whom Theo had cheated with his computer wizardry. Rather, Charles was simply an opportunist who knew better than to let an opportunity drop. This was free tech, tech that he didn’t even have to sleep with Theo for. How was he just supposed to pass that up? It would have been ridiculous and something he would kick himself about later. Besides, it wasn’t as if he were breaking Theo’s bank (he doubted he could). Rather a few little gifts here and there, nothing that would hurt Theo’s pocket book.

At least not yet. So long as Theo didn’t give him a reason to bleed him dry, then there was nothing to worry about.

So he continued to tease the other. When asked if flattery was given to everyone, an attempt at sarcasm, Charles merely answered by rubbing his cheek on the young man’s shoulder and implying that it was only for those who were worth it. Charles knew how to lay on the flattery, nice and thick, a means to continue to disarm people. Theo fell for it, hook, line, and sinker as he gazed at Charles’ eyes at his request. Best to pick something that matches, no?

Charles grinned as Theo inspected him and then called a cashier over, deciding on the nice onyx one. Though the Sioux would have figured he was at least worth the rose gold, he merely shrugged it off. Hey, he was getting a free high-end MP3 player! He wasn’t going to complain about that in the least.

Reaching over, he lightly pinched Theo’s chin in adoration. ”So good to me, sweetie,” he said with a wink. The cashier, still close enough to hear this, stifled a snerk, and Charles merely grinned. He had no problem saying these types of things out loud.

Theo, meanwhile, seemed eager to leave. He wanted to finish purchasing everything and make it home to lunch. Great! That meant that Charles didn’t have to head back to the motel any time soon. The longer he spend with Theo, the more he liked hanging around at his place. He wouldn’t push to move in or anything, but he wasn’t going to cut his time there short either.

Making his way to Theo’s side, he sighed, slipping his hands into his pockets. He wanted to continue with his public displays of affection just to see how pink Theo could turn but he couldn’t risk it just yet. He pushed him far enough for the moment -- at least physically.

A slight smile and he glanced at Theo through his aviators. ”So...what do you want for lunch? Are you finally going to work up the nerve to ask for a nooner?” he teased. Most people knew that to be a term for sex in the afternoon, but he doubted that Theo would understand that. Still, it was fun to test him.

His culture was considerably different than what he was finding here in America and Theo was still learning things that were customary and things that were unique to certain individuals. So far, the physical closeness, in general, was a noticeable difference. This trait seemed to vary in degree from person to person. Uriah, the first person he had met, was perfectly respectful of Theo's space with Alec being slightly less so and Charles being the most invasive. It made it more difficult to pinpoint what was custom and what wasn't but he preferred Uriah's Dane-like 'hands-off' approach.

Alec's forwardness could be attributed to the fact that he thought Theo was someone else but the Dane couldn't figure out what Charles could gain from being so… hm, affectionate. It was obvious, from the outside looking in, that he was being manipulated for the Sioux's benefit but Theo was trying to remain optimistic about his new partner's qualities, like his charming flattery.

It was somewhat odd to the Dane that he was so open in his… hm, admiration? Charles dismissed it as something he did with anyone who was deserving and Theo was accepting enough of that answer though he didn't see how he merited the attention. "So good to me, sweetie." The other pinched his chin as he spoke and Theo would have ignored it if not for the sound made by the clerk. "Charles, control yourself." He swatted lightly at the man's hand and moved to the register.

The dancer was at his side within moments but he paid no mind and continued watching the items be scanned, not bothering to glance at the other when he spoke. "So… what do you want for lunch? Are you finally going to work up the nerve to ask for a nooner?" What in the heck was that and did he dare ask? Brows pinched together, a look was thrown over his shoulder. "What, prey tell, might a 'nooner' be?" Almost certain he was going to regret asking but he couldn't help himself. He handed over payment for the merchandise and tried to ignore the obvious interest that the clerk had in there conversation.

At the reprimand to “control himself”, Charles merely shot Theo a teasing, pouting look. He would have easily followed that up with a “Yes Daddy”, but he didn’t necessarily want to push his luck. Instead he just followed behind the other who seemed ready to have lunch now.

Charles liked Theo, which was strange. Normally the type of person he dealt with was all over him, trying to either get in his pants or use him for some other means. Some people got tired of that kind of attention. Charles wanted to be known for a little more than just that but was also one to accept his situations as they came to him. He was willing to accept that that was all he was good for, but Theo was...different. He was nice, a little cold, and he certainly didn’t seem to want nothing but sex from the dancer. But then why was he working with him?

Charles pursed his lips in thought. Eh, it was too complicated to think of these things right now. Theo was just a means to an end for the Sioux. He wanted out of this town and out of his financial situation -- Theo can provide him with the key to doing that.

Following next to the other, he smirked as he started to inquire what Theo wanted for lunch. He then teased him about forgoing anything edible and simply wanted to bring Charles back to his place for a “nooner”. Charles knew what that was, hell, he had been propositioned enough times to know what he was referring to. But a quizzical look flashed across Theo’s face. Yeah, he clearly had no idea what Charles was talking about.

He sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose. Theo, clearly, had lived a sheltered life if half the things that Charles said completely flew over the top of his head. He definitely needed to educate the Dane.

”A nooner is fucking in the middle of the day.” His explanation was blunt, which seemed to be the only language that Theo spoke. He then moved to stand in front of the Dane, wrapping his arms around his neck as he leaned in and nuzzled his nose against the other’s already reddening cheek. ”So...to clarify...I was asking...do you want me for lunch?”

Charles' pout, feigned or otherwise, would get him nowhere with the Dane. Theo was a man of action, in most ways, and when he wanted something he devised the most logical and beneficial plan and then set it into motion. This was made easier by the fact that he had never lusted after anyone or otherwise sought attention from a person who denied it to him. He was hardly a physical being and was more than content with being alone and having his space. Hm. Well, truthfully that was inaccurate.

Theodore did not enjoy being alone, loneliness affected him the same as anyone else but he was, more or less, adapted to it by now. His father had been the only significant presence in his life for eighteen years and after he had passed it took Theo several years to let Brice in. Five years later and now Brice too was gone, leaving Theo feeling somewhat abandoned but he chose to ignore the emotion and focus instead on his work; that was, after all, what he had come to Lochland to do. He'd made do with a lack of companionship before and he could again even if it wasn't the most ideal.

The dancer's presence didn't bother him, it wasn't anywhere near the same attachment he had felt to Brice or his father but it added a little something to his life that he couldn't predict; however, there were lines that he'd drawn to keep the man at bay and was determined not to let Charles past them. A swift reminder to 'control' himself would be sufficient.

It was too until Theo inquired as to what a 'nooner' could possibly be and when he received a response he pinked immediately. "A nooner s fucking in the middle of the day." Must he be so brash about these things? Theo had reclaimed his change from the clerk just in time to have Charles stand before him and affectionately nuzzled against his rose-tinted cheek. "So…to clarify…I was asking…" Theo could only imagine where this was going, his thoughts protesting loudly but he couldn't get his mouth to work properly to vocalize anything short of incoherent Danish in the short pauses between Charles' words.

"…do you want me for lunch?" So, so, red. "Ingen." The word barely audible as he tried to push himself away from the dancer. Hands pressed flatly against the other's solid chest, he shoved lamely in an attempt at freedom. "…i-ingen." For a brief second, his fingers curled into the fabric of Charles' shirt before pulling back one hand and slapping against the man's chest.

Charles didn’t really know why he did it. Why did he continue to pester Theo in this manner. At this point he was essentially under the assumption that Theo must be a eunuch. Even someone who was straight would have pretty much threatened to kill him if he continued to push the way that Charles did to Theo. But he was never really hearing “no” from the Dane, only his constant muttering in Danish and his feeble attempts to wiggle out of the Sioux’s affections.

Still, it was almost fun to watch Theo blush as much as he did. It made the Sioux want to continue to pester him but even he knew that he needed to stop before he went on for too long. Once he crossed that line, there was every possibility that he would end up crossing a line he didn’t mean to.

Despite Charles’ best attempts to avoid that line he, unfortunately had the mishap of actually crossing that line. As he wrapped his arms around Theo’s neck, nuzzling against his cheek and inquiring if he wanted to go back to his place and have a little lunch in bed, he got his answer soon enough. Theo pinkened a deep shade and shook his head, he pushed against Charles, and suddenly the Sioux was struck with a thought.

Performing School. He remembered that bitch, the lying ballerina that had said he had attacked her when he had not been anywhere near her. But reputation and her lying friends had been enough proof for the administration that Charles was guilty. Suddenly, oddly, he was feeling very much like the villain now, a point that only came across harder by Theo’s begging and the sudden slap to his chest.

”Hey,” Charles grumbled as he stepped back from Theo and touched his chest. ”That...well...it didn’t hurt. It could have...I guess…” he sighed, rubbing that spot on his pectoral. Shaking his head he shoved his hands into his pockets and turned away.

It took a lot to make Charles feel guilty, mainly because he didn’t give a shit what people thought or said about him. But that moment, that one right there, he suddenly felt very, very bad. For the first time in a long it almost felt like maybe he was the bastard in all this. It wouldn’t last long, but it was enough to shake him up just a tiny bit.

Hands in his pockets he began to walk, given Theo a wide berth. Strangely he wasn’t feeling as affectionate towards the Dane and contemplated heading back to the motel. Some thoughts needed to be ironed out...

Theo wasn’t terribly judgmental of other people, or he tried not to be at least. He knew of Charles’ past and decided not to let that bother him in favor of working together and had put the incident behind them because it didn’t effect him. Besides that, he was nearly positive that Charles wasn’t actually guilty of that. Regardless, the conviction was far from influential on his thoughts at present. It was safe to say that he wasn’t even considering it all given his thoughts were much more focused on the Sioux and his considerable closeness.

The Dane was fairly accepting of most things even if he wasn’t excessively tolerant of most people, that often had more to do with his own reservations more than anything. Learning a new culture was part of it too because he didn’t want to come across as ignorant. However, boundaries were boundaries and Charles wasn’t far enough to make Theo panic, but it was enough to make his distaste clear.

It was too close, too personal, for him to feel comfortable and with being stuck in Danish mode wasn’t helping. Resorting to physical measures, he slapped at the dancer’s chest and continued his shoving. After a short moment it had yielded results.

Charles pulled back, well enough back that Theo was some what surprised. ”Hey, that…well… it didn’t hurt. It could have… I guess…” Hm. Theo wasn’t going to question his new found hesitance and simply down cast his gaze as he worked to steady himself. Collecting his bag from the counter, he headed for the door with a lingering glance on Charles as he passed the dancer. Pushing the door open he paused and looked back at the other. ”Charles, are you accompanying me?” He had resumed his usual tone, the blush still present but otherwise he had regained his composure. Either answer would be acceptable but he did hope that he had not upset the other man.

Charles was starting to feel confused. He liked to tease Theo, mainly because the man’s reactions were both flattering and confusing at the same time. Charles had never met someone who was so seemingly into him and yet unwilling to make a move. Though he joked about Theo being a eunuch, part of him was actually starting to believe it. What else did the dancer have to do to let him know that a roll in the hay was okay with him? He was actually pretty into it since he rarely had to work so hard to get someone’s attention. But Theo just remained consistently aloof, something that bewildered the dancer every time he was exposed to it.

That is, at least until Charles had finally crossed that line he didn’t mean to. He was simply pushing boundaries and Theo reacted rather firmly. He slapped him on the chest, clearly uncomfortable with Charles advances. It wasn’t like the Sioux was just going to take him right there in the middle of the store, but it was clear how much Theo was discomforted by the action -- and how awful that made the dancer feel.

He sighed. He hated complications. He hated complicated feelings. So, his hands in his pockets, he backed away from Theo, giving him his space, and started to head out of the store with him. With every step he was feeling more and more awful at what he had done. Really, it was just his way to be overly flirtatious with everyone but now he was really feeling like that monster he had been mislabeled as from so many years ago. No wonder the administration believed the girl’s accusations without much investigation.

He clenched his jaw and shook his head. He needed space now. He stopped walking, noticing Theo go past him. It wasn’t long before the Dane turned back and inquired if he was going to follow him back home. Charles sighed and shook his head.

”Nah. I got shit to do,” he said. He turned around without looking Theo in the eye. ”I’ll catch you around,” he said, starting to walk the other way. ”Hold onto my stuff, will you?”

There went his plans for messing around with his new mp3 player for the day. Oh well, he’d find something, or someone, else to distract him.

Unwittingly, the Dane had set in motion a chain of events that even he could not have predicted. By pushing at the dancer in a panicked search for his space, he'd gotten it and more. Though he had quickly recovered and dismissed what had happened now that his head was clear, it was apparent that his cohort was not as quick to bounce back to his typical personality and Theo had noticed the shift as he collected the bag of merchandise and headed for the door.

Charles wasn't following him and while he was hardly annoyed by the space it felt odd to be so distanced from the dancer when the other was fairly insistent on being nearby. Being that he was not a verbally prying person, he asked simply if the other was planning on following and was given a declining answer. Hm. It seemed the other had things to do and requested that Theo hold onto his things.

After a fleeting frown, he gave a curt nod. "Very well." Propping the door with his foot, he adjusted his glasses without taking his eyes off the other. "Good day, Charles." And with that he pressed on with his day with every intention of heading to his home but as he walked he couldn't help reflecting on the exchange that had just happened.

He had not meant to upset the other and could only assume that was that had happened since he could not hack his way into the other's emotions and was far too polite to ask, in public no less, it was the only thing he had to go on. A small feeling of guilt had settled over him as he walked but he couldn't quite figure it out, perhaps it was the shock of seeing Charles in a manner that he hadn't before that was unsettling. After all, the dancer had never been so frigid towards him.

Hm. Maybe the next time they met things would settle back into what could be considered normal between the two of them.
