Personality Positives: Grace is someone who has a high moral standard. She firmly believes in things like giving children a good education, and keeping them from various vices such as drugs and alcohol. She despises alcohol and tobacco herself, and doesn't even want to be around it. She also has a big heart toward both children and animals. She loves spending time with both, and loves donating to programs that help out children and animals as well. Naturally, a big part of her heart goes toward her daughter, Hannah, who she thinks the world of and loves being a mom to, as well as toward their dog, Midas. Grace is also very nostalgic. She loves classic music, antiquities, classic decor. Almost anything old school is her cup of tea. Finally, even though she doesn't have that big of a sweet tooth, Grace does have a big taste for ice cream. The reason for this, besides the taste, is that it reminds her that life isn't all about being serious, and it's okay to have fun and let loose now and then. Grace definitely gears toward that type of moderation.
Personality Negatives: While Grace looks children and animals, she can be very awkward around a lot of adults. This usually isn't the case when dealing with the parents of her students, as she is professional, but in a general sense, she can be nervous and find it difficult to hold conversations with others. Part of this goes back to her upbringing and the incident that left her pregnant. One thing Grace can be verbally adamant about is when she hears swearing around kids, or people smoking around them. While there is good intent behind this, Grace can be a bit harsh to others because of this, and make herself look unpleasant. Grace can also allow herself to be distracted by various things at times, and can come off as not listening to others or being forgetful.
Grace Miller was born in a small community in Pennsylvania. The community was, for the most part, a very pious one, and things like good education, attending church, and avoiding various forms of sin and vice. Grace's mother and father were very much about this, especially with Grace's father being a Minister. Grace was raised with all these ideals ingrained in her mind, and she spent the early part of her life following them. She made good grades in school, she sung in church choir, and she stuck with friends who did not get into trouble. She seemed like the perfect daughter all through high school. However, college came along, and her parents felt Grace had enough of a good head on her shoulders to live the community in order to go to college in Pittsburg.
Academically, Grace did fine in college. She continued to make good grades, and chose to go into Early Childhood Education. As part of her program, she assisted teachers at various schools in Pittsburg, and she looked like she would go on to be a fine teacher herself one day. Yes, in that area, she was okay. It was socially where Grace went astray.
Unlike in grade school, Grace didn't find friends who were about strong morals. They, like her, were youths who were free of their parents, and they took advantage of it. They took Grace to parties, and pressured her into having their kids of good time. At first, Grace avoided drinking, but the temptation became too great. It was at one of these parties that she earned the attention of a football player named Chez. Soon, the two were dating. He seemed like a nice guy, and even Grace's parents thought so when she brought him back home to meet them. It wasn't until after graduation that he showed his true colors.
The graduation party was the night Grace had sex for the first time. Despite the attempt to be safe, Grace became pregnant. Instead of offering to father the child, who Grace chose to keep, Chez bailed on her. On top of that, Grace's pregnancy out of wedlock shamed her parents and her home community, and it was implied she wasn't welcomed back there. Alone and with a baby on the way, Grace came to the conclusion that she had to find a new life away from all that had happened.
Grace lived a few towns over from Lochland Grove for a while, and managed to hold a day care job to help support her and her newborn daughter, who she named Hannah. She knew she needed something more steady, and learned about the job opening for a First Grade teacher in Lochland Grove. She gave it a try, and, to her surprise, she got the position. She moved to the town, where she has lived and taught for a year and a half now. She likes the town, thinks it's great for her daughter, as well as the newest member of the family, a Golden Retriever named Midas, and has truly seen it as a place to start over and forget her harsh past.
