She wasn't going to make him talk about it now, what was the point when he was just going to get even more frustrated and then potentially snap at her again? Grace would also pick up on that too and she was quite sure Kieran didn't want her screaming her head off in the back again. She'd wait until he calmed down a bit before she attempted to talk to him about it, but that wasn't likely to be today, something told her he was just going to be in a miserable mood. As long as he didn't completely ignore what had happened because she didn't want to think he was bottling all his emotions up - that wasn't likely to help matters and she'd always made it known she was there for him. Besides, she'd opened up enough to him in the time she'd known him, she wanted to think he could do the same with her.

Since she knew she was going to be blanked by Kieran for the journey home it was definitely best she sat in the back with Grace. She'd already stopped crying and seemed somewhat comforted by Zoe's presence in the back with her, even letting her wipe her tears away. That was a good start at least. Maybe if Grace managed to calm down then her dad might be able to do the same. Zoe smiled as she pulled the bear out of the box, holding it out for Grace so she could cuddle it. "She's so soft and cuddly, you have to take good care of her" she smiled, aware that Kieran had now started driving away. "Do you think she can be friends with your bunny too?" she asked, knowing that Grace's very favourite soft animal was the bunny Kieran had gotten her as a baby.

It quietened down in the back eventually and she leant back against the headrest, looking at Grace every so often and then gazing out of the window. It was a shame to have cut their day short, but if they'd stayed in Hartford Kieran would only have been in a terrible mood anyway. She'd try not to be too annoyed about it, they could have plenty more days out together.

It wasn't like he was ignoring Zoe on purpose, he just needed space when he was in a mood like this. He closed himself off completely and would just refuse to talk to anyone. Surely it was better that way? He'd only cause an argument between them if he opened his mouth. He just wanted to go home and be in his own space so he had time to think. Not that there was much chance of that with a two year old around but he was sure he could find something to keep her occupied. He just had to pray she didn't start having another tantrum once they got back home.

He could hear the interaction in the back of the car, Zoe was so incredibly sweet with Grace. He was very lucky to have her, even if he still thought she was far too good for him. Now his thoughts returned to that situation again, wondering what Zoe possibly saw in him when there were plenty of guys he was sure would kill to be with her. Guys that were more her age and had no kids. Surely it was only a matter of time before she realised she could have something far better with someone else.

"Yes. They... they be friends... and... snuggly in my bed" Grace was cuddling her new bear now in the back of the car. Kieran was very thankful the crying had stopped, hoping it would stay that way whilst he drove them home. He was quiet of course, not saying a word as he focused on the road ahead. He looked in the mirror every now and again, Grace had fallen asleep eventually and Zoe just seemed to be looking out of the window.

Lochland was eventually in sight and everything was still quiet as he pulled up outside his house. Quietly he opened his door and got out, opening the back seat door so he could very quietly unfasten Grace's seatbelt - he didn't want to wake her up. She stirred slightly as he lifted her out of the car seat, "Shhhh... shhhh..." he held her against him as she still dozed, she was so lovely and warm in his arms and he felt even more terrible for how he'd acted earlier.

Grace's new bear had saved the day it seemed. Or at least it had for now. She wasn't sure what kind of state she might be in once they got back to Lochland. For Kieran's sake she hoped that Grace managed to forget what had happened and would spend the rest of the day feeling content at least. As for Zoe, she had no idea what she was supposed to do when they got home but she had a feeling Kieran wouldn't want any company.

Zoe watched Grace for a bit as she cuddled her bear and once they were out on the open road it didn't take long for her to fall asleep. Zoe wished she could fall asleep that easily in the car, but she could rarely do more than just rest her eyes for a bit. It was a painfully quiet trip home and she didn't dare say another word to Kieran for the remainder of the journey even if she did catch herself looking over at him as he drove. Who knew what was really going through his head right now, as much as she wanted to talk to him and for him to tell her his fears, she didn't see it happening. Not yet anyway.

She was almost glad when they arrived back to Lochland, although she felt slightly awkward about getting out of the car knowing she would have to speak to him again. Grace had managed to stay asleep the whole way and didn't seem to make a fuss when Kieran quietly lifted her out and held her in his arms. Zoe got out of the backseat herself, gathering her bags together as she closed the door and then hesitated for a moment before joining Kieran by his side. "I suppose I should go home then" she said quietly, she wasn't going to offer to stay. If he wanted her to stay then he'd have to tell her. "You obviously need some space" she shrugged, she refused to be some super clingy girlfriend that didn't give him room to breath.

It had been a complete waste of a day. What had supposed to be a lovely day out with Zoe and Grace had just turned into an absolute disaster. He wondered what else could possibly go wrong today because when he had a day like this everything seemed to happen at once. He wanted to just lock himself away and be alone, not something that he could do when he had Grace to look after. But he could only hope she might wake up in a better mood.

He was still holding his daughter against him, being quiet as not to wake her because he didn't want another screaming fit right now. He knew he'd clearly made Zoe feel awkward as well as ruin her day. But if they spent anymore time together today he feared he would just snap at her. He didn't want that, not when she didn't deserve it. He bit down on his lip awkwardly, feeling bad for sending her home, but he didn't see a choice right now. He nodded his head slowly, she at least understood that he needed space, not that he supposed it would really do him any good but he certainly wasn't in the mood to be talking at the moment. "I'm so sorry, Zoe" he apologised, looking down at the ground as if to try and avoid eye contact with her. He hated knowing he'd let her down. There had really been no need to drive all the way home after what had happened, he'd made a call which had basically resulted in ruining everyone's day. "I'll make it up to you" he mumbled under his breath, knowing full well that she was going to make him talk at some point. He couldn't avoid it forever.
