He usually liked working at the Odyssey, but today he could have worked anywhere else. Preferably somewhere exciting that didn’t feel like his brain was slowly being melted out the side of his head. Seriously. The only good thing to happen today was that he was getting off early ‘n didn’t have to work at his other job tomorrow morning.

It was kinda torture to be stuck at the dance floor. He fucking CHOREOGRAPHED dances in his spare time ‘n he had to sit there watching people wiggle on eachother like they were humping or worse, twerking. Jeezus. Was it weird that he didn’t like twerking? It just creeped him out. All he could do was just sit there with his arms crossed ‘n chill.

Booooored.

Could there at least be a fight? Something? Anything? What time was it? Okay, two minutes’n he was off work. He looked at the ceiling then did another look around the dance floor before doing a double take at the bar. Some big guy was trying to pick a fight with one of his bartenders. Great. Not the kinda fight he wanted. He shined his flashlight at other Bouncers then towards the bar before heading that way. ”Excuse me, sir.” He started off, putting his flashlight in his pocket. ”We don’t allow people to touch our staff. I think You’ve had too much to drink.” See, no cussing. He fucking loved to cuss, but he didn’t do that shit at work. ”How about a few glasses of water?” He got a look that woulda killed him, but the dude let up, leaving the bar with a dirty look.

Jeezus. That was boring too... fuck this night.

Alec always enjoyed working at the Odyssey especially since his shifts happened to be at peak tipping time. It was fun to be around drunk people and often times the patrons were too wasted to realize they’d tipped $20 instead of $2, and he wasn’t about to correct them on that. He’d earned the money fair and square with his excellent service, thoughtful listening and entertaining banter. However, this particular patron had turned what was meant to be a lighthearted conversation into something much too personal. “Listen here, you prick, Moana was way better than Frozen and that’s not up for debate,” he spat, eyes narrowing at the patron and his jaw clenching as he resisted slapping the other’s hand away as that guy had the nerve to point at him and claim Frozen’s protagonist was better developed and more relatable to a wider audience than Moana. Alec may have snuck in a few drinks for himself during the shift, so he felt way more insulted by that than he probably should’ve.

Look, he’d watched the movies with his little sister and enjoyed them both immensely, but Moana was undoubtedly better in his opinion. The other man leaned forward and reached for his shirt collar. ”Excuse me, sir.” Alec had never been so relieved to hear a bouncer’s voice. The patron looked like he was about to punch Alec’s beautiful face. ”We don’t allow people to touch our staff. I think You’ve had too much to drink.” The patron gave once last glare to Alec before leaving, but he simply rolled his eyes as a response. ”How about a few glasses of water?” It was actually great that guy didn’t take up that offer, because Alec didn’t want to serve him water anyway. Now, he’d probably go be an annoying drunk somewhere else, but that wasn’t Alec’s problem.

“Thanks, that guy comes in to pick fights sometimes, but he’d never gotten physical before,” Alec explained to Anthony as he picked up the patron’s empty glass and put it away.

It was kinda lame when people got so determined to fight then went flat. It was like watching a balloon lose air. One minute: big. Next minute: making fart noises while running away...

...okay, that wasn’t a good example. Tony couldn’t remember the last time he saw a drunk shit his pants while walking away from him. “Thanks, that guy comes in to pick fights sometimes, but he’d never gotten physical before,” The bouncer nodded, eyes watching the retreating back of another bouncer as they followed the drunk idiot out. ”Yeah, no problem.” He ran his hands over his face ‘n up into his hair in a last ditch effort not to be depressed that it was over already. ”You okay?” Pff. Yeah, dude looked fine, but he needed to ask.

”Bryant!” FINALLY his relief. ”You are off the clock.” The Bouncer nodded, turned around, and plopped down on a hot pink bar stool. ”I want a drink with orange juice in it.” he commented, leaning on the bar in front of him with relief. ”I’ve been so bored tonight that all I wanna do is go home ‘n talk to my cat. Crazy people talk to cats.” He’d do it anyway, and the King of Cats deserved respect. That didn’t mean he wanted to admit it right now. Fuck this mood ‘n this club.

”You okay?” Alec snorted at the question as he dried some of the glasses behind the bar. “Of course I’m okay. I could’ve taken him anyway.” Sure, the patron may have been twice his size and totally ruthless, and perhaps Alec was lacking in the muscle department after having quit the modeling job, but he could totally take him on. For sure. ”I want a drink with orange juice in it.” Alec nodded as he gathered vodka, cranberry juice, peach liquor and orange juice then put it together in the shaker before pouring it out in front of Anthony. “Sex on the Beach,” he said, gesturing at the glass.

”I’ve been so bored tonight that all I wanna do is go home ‘n talk to my cat. Crazy people talk to cats.” The bar had pretty much emptied out as most people had gone to dance at this point, so Alec took the chance to wipe down the counter before junk kept adding up. These drunk queers were messy as hell, leaving their fruity cocktail soaked napkins all over. “I can agree with that because normal people own dogs in the first place,” he teased. Alec wasn’t much of an animal person, but if he had to answer the age old question of dog vs cat, he’d choose dog, no question. Though he may have been biased now that he had a dog himself.

Freedom, sweet sweet freedom! He’d start with a drink ‘n then maybe another. Preferably with orange juice. ”Sex on the beach.” He knew the guy meant the drink, but fuck if that didn’t sound good too. ”Thanks.” The idea of going home sounded good, but it wouldn’t end well. He’d just go talk to King until he passed out.. or watched porn. He was gonna turn into a crazy cat person. “I can agree with that because normal people own dogs in the first place,” pff. ”My cat would probably kill most dogs.” He admitted, accepting his drink in a better mood. ”He’s 30 pounds of cat! Nobody believes me until they see him though.” He admitted.

Wait wait..

”I know we work together ‘n shit, but I don’t know your name.” He titled his head, glancing into the drink to make sure there wasn’t anything weird in it. ”I’m Tony. People usually call me Bryant when I work. Makes me feel like i’m back in fucking gym class. “ yeaaah. that was a weird time in his life. ”At least people aren’t getting fucked up for being different here. I’ll consider that a bonus.. even though I get bored as shit.” He shouldn’t complain about work ‘n usually he didn’t. It was just THAT BAD. The drink wasn’t bad though. There was more in it that orange juice ‘n booze, but not in a bad kinda way.

”My cat would probably kill most dogs.” Alec raised an eyebrow, cleaning the counter significantly slower. ”He’s 30 pounds of cat! Nobody believes me until they see him though.” Alec snorted. “I’ll take your word for it. Just let me know if he ever runs away so I know to leave my dog at home.” Well, the dog actually belonged to his sister, which was all the more reason to keep the dog safe from feline freaks of nature. He set the rag he’d been using to clean with down and poured himself a drink, which was against the rules, but Anthony didn’t seem like a snitch.

”I know we work together ‘n shit, but I don’t know your name.” Alec felt a punch to his ego as he often did when he wasn’t recognized. He’d been a famous model less than a year ago so he assumed most people would at least recognize his aura. “Wow, you just made me feel significantly less special,” he said jokingly. ”I’m Tony. People usually call me Bryant when I work. Makes me feel like i’m back in fucking gym class.” Alec had already known Tony’s name because he knew he was Ky’s friend since he’d seen them hang out, but out of sheer pride he decided not to mention that since Tony hadn’t recognized him. “I’m Alec. Alec Aldana.” He said that slowly in hopes that Tony might recognize the name.

”At least people aren’t getting fucked up for being different here. I’ll consider that a bonus.. even though I get bored as shit.” Alec much preferred the boring Odyssey club to being with his father back home, so he considered the monotony a plus. “Boring is better than terrifying at least.”

To be fair, he didn’t keep up with most people he worked with. Sometimes they were there, sometimes they left. The only reason Tony wanted to know the name of the guy behind the bar was because he made him a drink. It was kina a jerk move not to ask. “Wow, you just made me feel significantly less special,” Pff. Whatever. Hi, he was Tony.. blah blah. “I’m Alec. Alec Aldana.” Alec, ugh. Why THAT name. ”I knew an Alec a long time ago. He was such a fucking asshole I wanted to push him down the stairs.” He grumped, sipping his drink. ”You don’t look like him though... uh.. don’t every dye your hair blue.” Seriously. He had bad memories of his teen years ‘n dealing with Alec.

Ugh.. this feeling should be fading. Why was he so bored?

“Boring is better than terrifying at least.” Truth. ”Yeah, I’ll take this to getting hit by a car again any day.” He admitted, leaving out the part about getting kidnapped that one time. Yeah, that sucked too. ”Maybe part of the problem is that it all happens all the time. Every day. Like, life. For me it’s all about working two ‘n a half jobs and getting ready for school again. I’m always doing something.” Did someone turn up the fucking music? Who was that stupid? It was already loud enough to hurt his ears. ”The money has been nice though. Can’t spend it on anything, but it’s nice.” Where was the time? ”Is this your only job?” It kinda came to mind that working at a bar made decent tips. Jem used to bartend. Fuck, he missed Jem.

”What was this drink again? Sex on the beach?” Right, that sounded right. ”Who comes up with drink names? You could fucking hit on someone just by offering a drink like that. Then if they turn you down you just say ‘i meant the drink, dude’. “ Gawd that sounded kinda creepy. ”Not that I’d do that. It’s hard enough being a gay guy without confusing people.”

”I knew an Alec a long time ago. He was such a fucking asshole I wanted to push him down the stairs.” Tony was lucky then since this Alec wasn’t an asshole. He may be an occasionally rude narcissist, but not an asshole. ”You don’t look like him though... uh.. don’t every dye your hair blue.” Of course he didn’t look like other Alec. No one looked as good as this Alec. “Definitely not. Blue isn’t my color,” he assured. Alec had accepted this as part of his job, listening to hints of people’s life’s stories, and it usually came with a tip so he’d endure it patiently, but he didn’t think Tony was a tipper. He was Ky’s friend though, so he figured he might as well listen.

”Yeah, I’ll take this to getting hit by a car again amy day.”

”Maybe part of the problem is that it all happens all the time. Every day. Like, life. For me it’s all about working two ‘n a half jobs and getting ready for school again. I’m always doing something.”

”The money has been nice though. Can’t spend it on anything, but it’s nice.”

”Is this your only job?”
Alec was on his second drink at that point. “I’m a TA as well,” he answered, resting his hands on the counter. “You’re going to school? What are you studying?”

”What was this drink again? Sex on the beach?” Alec nodded. ”Who comes up with drink names? You could fucking hit on someone just by offering a drink like that. Then if they turn you down you just say ‘i meant the drink, dude’. “ He laughed at that. Tony had a point. “I’m sure they’re just implying the drink’s as good as the real thing, but I would say it’s way better. Sex on the beach is just messy, and also, illegal in most places.” Alec should know, having almost gotten arrested for it that one time in Puerto Rico.

”Not that I’d do that. It’s hard enough being a gay guy without confusing people.” “Why? Do people think you're straight?”

This dude was a TA? Guess it made sense. People don’t make much money doing that shit. “You’re going to school? What are you studying?” The Bouncer shrugged. ”Forestry. “ Not really much else to say. Nobody liked to talk about school. This drink though. This drink had a fucking weird name. It was practically a pick up line. “I’m sure they’re just implying the drink’s as good as the real thing, but I would say it’s way better. Sex on the beach is just messy, and also, illegal in most places.” True. ”yeah, probably. Lube couldn’t save the chafing.” In the end, somebody got sand in their ass. No thanks.

Yeah, he’d stick to just drinking ‘sex on the beach’ ‘n not hitting on people with it. It was hard enough to be gay without confusing people. “Why? Do people think you're straight?” The Mime shrugged. ”Yeah, but that isn’t a surprise.”

He finished his drink ‘n got to his feet. ”Nice talking to you Alec. I’m gonna head home...” Tony paused, realizing the guy had been drinking at the same time. ”Wait, how much have you had to drink tonight? You gonna be safe to go home when you get off?” Jeezus, he needed to learn to keep his fucking mouth shut. The dude was obviously sober enough to not break shit. Glancing around the room, he tried to measure how many people were there 'n how long it would take for everybody to get off. "You want a ride home?" He was all happy to go home, see his cat, watch some fucking porn. If he was lucky Ky 'n Lenny would'nt be fucking. If he wasn't? Well, he'd fucking deal.

”Forestry.” Alec on the contrary, loved to talk about school, and had Tony not seemed so resistant to talk about it, he would’ve gone on and on about his own major.

”yeah, probably. Lube couldn’t save the chafing.” “It doesn’t,” Alec said quickly with a sigh. Sex on the beach hadn’t been his brightest idea, but at least he could say he did it, and that was the main reason why people did risky things at all.

”Yeah, but that isn’t a surprise.” “I would assume you’re gay, but I might just be biased because we work here,” he said, gesturing at the sea of gay men clumsily grinding on each other.

”Nice talking to you Alec. I’m gonna head home...” Alec had nodded and turned around to the tip jar, then looked back at Tony over his shoulder as he spoke again. ”Wait, how much have you had to drink tonight? You gonna be safe to go home when you get off?”

"You want a ride home?"

“I’m only slightly inebriated, but I’m not turning down a ride.” If Tony was nice enough to offer a ride, Alec much preferred it to walking home with the usual risk of some obsessive patron following him. “I live in Meadowspring Apartments and my shift is over in ten minutes. Is that on your way?” He asked, stuffing his share of tips into his back pocket and turning back to Tony.

He needed to get going. One drink was enough. Too many ‘n he’d have to walk home. Not that he had a problem with walking home, he was kinda looking into parkour, it just wasn’t something he wanted to do after work. He wasn’t sure how much Alec had, but it looked like more than him. Did he have a ride or something? Did he want one? “I’m only slightly inebriated, but I’m not turning down a ride.” Fuck, what did he do? Now he had to wait for the dude to get off work. ”Cool.” At least the mime-mobile didn’t have advertisements all over it anymore. “I live in Meadowspring Apartments and my shift is over in ten minutes. Is that on your way?” .. oh.. that wasn’t THAT bad. ”Yeah, I live there too, actually.” That worked.

While Alec got his shit together, the Bouncer went outside to get some fresh air. Getting away made him feel like he was halfway home. His keys were already in his hand when the bartender appeared. ”Yo. This way.” He paused at the edge of the parkinglot ‘n looked both ways. Nothing? Good. ”I don’t trust parkinglots ‘n alcohol. They do stupid shit. Angry drunk people keep trying to hit me with their cars.” Seriously. ”My buddy Jem barely missed getting plowed once. It was fucking awful. Had to go to the hospital ‘n everything.” Gawd.. his life was shit then. Having Ari take care of him was the only good part ‘n even that sucked. ”I actually at 044 with my buddy Lenny. He works here too. My buddy Ky sometimes crashes at our place so it’s fucking crowded. At least meadowsprings is pretty cheap.” He was gonna be happy to get home. ”How long have you lived there?” The mime mobile was an ancient car that used to have magnetic signs all fucking over it. Tony couldn’t buff out the sunbleaching if he tried. There were still shapes on it.

”Cool.”

”Yeah, I live there too, actually.”
“Awesome, I’ll be right out then,” he said before starting the clean-up to help out the next shift as he was sure the bar would be crowded again soon. He then left his apron in the back and headed out, jacket in hand since it wasn’t too cold out. He searched the parking lot until he heard Tony’s voice saying, “Yo. This way.” “Got it,” Alec said, slightly stumbling into the lot. He may have had an extra drink while getting ready to leave.

”I don’t trust parkinglots ‘n alcohol. They do stupid shit. Angry drunk people keep trying to hit me with their cars.”

”My buddy Jem barely missed getting plowed once. It was fucking awful. Had to go to the hospital ‘n everything.
“What? That’s insane,” Alec frowned. He himself was a bit too loose with his drinking sometimes, but he’d never put anyone in danger by driving after one too many strangely named drinks. "Your friend come out okay?"

”I actually at 044 with my buddy Lenny. He works here too. My buddy Ky sometimes crashes at our place so it’s fucking crowded. At least meadowsprings is pretty cheap.”

”How long have you lived there?”

“I know Ky. We used to work together when I modeled and I quit almost a year ago so that’s how long I’ve been living in Lochland. I didn’t even know he was living here though, just ran into him the other day,” he explained, following Tony into his car.

He seriously hated parkinglots. Add some alcohol ‘n a stupidly angry dude ‘n you get a chance to end up road pizza. Yay. Tony could remember when Jem was almost killed like that. First a guy tries to strangle him ‘n then tries to run them both over. He kinda mentioned it offhand, not really thinking about it. What? That’s insane. Your friend come out okay?" The bouncer cringed. ”Yeah.. I got hit instead. Saved his ass though. Pushed him out of the way ‘n ended up ontop of a car. It still hurt to think about.

So Alec lived in Meadowsprings? Cool. He did too. Always with Lenny, sometimes with Ky. “I know Ky. We used to work together when I modeled and I quit almost a year ago so that’s how long I’ve been living in Lochland. I didn’t even know he was living here though, just ran into him the other day,” huh. ”No shit? “ Small world. ”He doesn’t tell me about his work ‘n right now he doesn’t really talk to me at all. Too busy fucking his boyfriend. “ Unlocking the car, he hopped inside ‘n put on his seatbelt. It smelled pretty good inside. He’d started trying car air fresheners this summer. So far so good. ”I don’t think Meadowsprings has much of a social-uh-atmosphere? It feels like everybody does their own thing. That’s probably why I haven’t seen you.” yeaaah.. he didn’t go out of his way to meet neighbors.

The car pulled out of the parkinglot, starting down the road at the speed limit. Tony didn’t usually speed. ”Was it fun modeling? It looks kinda boring to me. Like you are human hangers for clothes instead of people wearing clothes.” Why didn’t they have a victoria’s secret runway fashion show for men? He’d watch that. ”Anyway, I’m not much of a talker ‘n I’m running out of shit to say. “ Some people were good at it, he wasn’t. ”I grew up in a small town like this. Just, didn’t really feel like doing shit with people. That included talking.”

”Yeah.. I got hit instead. Saved his ass though. Pushed him out of the way ‘n ended up ontop of a car.” “Hm, I hope you sued.” He didn’t really know what to say other than that, but kudos to Tony for going all out.

”He doesn’t tell me about his work ‘n right now he doesn’t really talk to me at all. Too busy fucking his boyfriend. “ Alec laughed a little. “Attaboy, Ky. I mean, sucks for you, but good for him.”

”I don’t think Meadowsprings has much of a social-uh-atmosphere? It feels like everybody does their own thing. That’s probably why I haven’t seen you.” “I’ve been working on my dissertation for a while now, so I’m not really in and out. I’m either out all day and don’t come back until really late, or in all day, so that’s probably why too,” he explained.

”Was it fun modeling? It looks kinda boring to me. Like you are human hangers for clothes instead of people wearing clothes.” There were indeed male versions of the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, just not quite as well-known. Alec would know considering he’d either been in them or gone to see them several times. “That’s exactly what it is, models are a product, but it’s not boring at all. You get laid all you want, tons of free clothes if you play your cards right, you get to snort coke off famous people’s stomachs, -though I can’t reveal who’s exactly-, and you know, money.” Of course, not all models had this experience, but Alec had gotten famous and worked for long enough to have gotten all the experiences, good and bad.

”Anyway, I’m not much of a talker ‘n I’m running out of shit to say.“

”I grew up in a small town like this. Just, didn’t really feel like doing shit with people. That included talking.”
“Where you from?” Alec asked out of curiosity, not really minding much if Tony wasn’t a big talker.

The car continued to cruise down the road. Tony had driven this way so many times that he didn’t even think about it anymore. Turn right, turn left, blah blah blah. If only talking was as easy. He didn’t like talking to people ‘n he wasn’t good at it either. He’d grown up in a small town where he’d managed to be left alone by pretty much everyone. ”Where you from?” The Bouncer exhaled softly through his nose in a soft sigh. ”Mariet, Louisiana.” He commented gloomily. ”Y’know, that town that got hit by a flood a few years ago ‘n Lochland took everybody in? That town.” Not that Alec would know too much about it. he wasn’t there when it happened. ”Ugh..gawd, it pisses me off sometimes.” He went quiet ‘n boiled inside, smacking the steering wheel with his right hand.

Jeezus, okay, chill.

”We in august of two thousand-fucking-seventeen. In January of 2014 they helped us ‘n ever since it’s always about ‘woo go us, we saved a bunch of people’. Every year they have a parade on january 2nd. One year they built a fucking park. “ The anger didn’t show on his face, but was in his voice. ”They can’t just let it die already. Get back to praising themselves about some serial killer from a million years ago. I mean, sure they helped us, but I lost my home ‘n I had to ride in a cramped minivan with my parents ‘n my ex all the way here then stay in a cramped apartment with all of them PLUS my ex’s family. Nobody needs that bullshit. Nobody.” Gawd. FUCK. Thinking about Moses always pissed him off. Dude says he loves him then disappears two weeks into dating ‘cause he got found out. Who marries a bunch of women for money? WHO?! Fucker, hope his food truck gets four flat tires.
