He had attempted to tell him to calm the hell down, there were likely threats of flooding in Louisiana all the time, but the man wouldn't have it. He insisted they leave, they leave instantly. He packed what he could. A couple books, typewriter, photographs of which he had very few. Very few indeed.. some of Jasper and his wife, and his son. One of Tai, and some of his younger brother, most of them, actually, were of him. He missed him dearly.. The kittens were another thing. Three of them. He fit them in his pockets and they cried and mewled for him to let them out, but he couldn't. Jasper, of course, couldn't drive a damned car, so he had to get to the car, he had to get to his home. The drive was quiet. Jasper was giving him directions and Sano, Sano had no fucking clue where he was going. All he knew, was the guy was scared, so he didn't say anything about it for a while. His jacket mewled.. but it was missing one. The child in the back held it in his jacket to keep it safe, the dog beside him. A precious dog, something important. They all took something important.. he hadn't assumed he'd had important things. Another kitten mewled, and he glanced at the man beside him as he slowly pulled to a stop in the road. "Say nothing." He grumbled. They.. they were his damn kittens. If he made any fuss, he'd punch him in the face. "Are you going to tell me where we're headed?"daenerys stormborn.

Making jabs at the man, small but well placed comments about his mewling jacket. Something about an alley cat would no doubt follow. All jokes that usually spoken by the man, but not this time. No, this time, Jasper was silent. He did not enjoy cars. If he did not have to be in one, the he wouldn't. Having to leave his bike behind was rather hard. He could easily get a new one, but there were memories tied to that hunk of metal. Memories that were going to be washed away. Once they were safe, at least he would he able to say told you so. Not that he would truly say such a thing. Jasper was not the type to gloat. No, the man was always a very good show of what humble truly meant.Taking a nervous breath, Jasper tried to reply to the other, but remained silent. He couldn't speak. The mere thought of speaking made his stomach twist, and the familiar burn in his throat started up. The last thing he wanted was to ask him friend to pull over, so he could be sick on the side of the road. Such a shameful situation, but it wasn't one that he could very well avoid. If car rides did not spark his anxiety attacks, they did cause him to lose his stomach rather violently. From the backseat, Mink shifted. The boy held the kitten tightly in his arms and reached out. His small hand touched his father's arm. The boy was staring at the man, not upset that his gaze wasn't met. "It's okay daddy!"He had such a cheerful tone. Jasper wanted to cry. His son was so sweet, so strong. Slowly letting go of the doorhandle - the first time since he got in - Jasper softly pat the child's hand. He gave a nervous smile, squeezing the small hand in his own and looked at his boy. It only lasted a moment, then his head was bowed and gripping the door again. Mink smiled, but pulled away. He curled up in the back seat, petting the kitten gently, playing with a string he had found in the back. The man spoke now, though it was almost a wheeze. "Connecticut"code by *anna.

Hardly anything affected him so much, he forgot how much he hated cars. He was gripping the door, his breaths short and nervous, shaky. He could say nothing to ease the trauma, so he didn't. He pretended it wasn't happening. Mink had other ideas, of course. He leaned forward, placed his hand onto his father's arm, and tried to comfort him. A child comforting a parent was not something he was abundantly accustomed to, at least not with his own family. His blood-related family, at least. Except for Yavin, he could be dying in a street, bleeding to death, and they would have done very little, if anything, to help. It was sweet to see affection in other families, and know he was almost part of it too, almost completely.Connecticut was not a name of something he was familiar with. He furrowed his brows as he pressed on the gas, starting again on this journey. “What in the fuck is a Connecticut?” For being extremely intelligent, bordering genius, he was truly ignorant about things.. American geography was one of those. He hadn't planned to stay here long, before he met Jasper and his little gang, then it seemed, he couldn't even think of leaving. He had a chance at something keen to a family, so he took it, and stayed. He hadn't planned to move from California, either. He actually enjoyed that mild weather, not exactly hot or cold.. at least not in his standards. Louisiana.. had been hell. Connecticut, though.. where the hell was that, even? “Somewhere in the north, I assume..” he muttered out loud, confusion still on his face.“It sounds terrible.” Always the optimist, it seemed.daenerys stormborn.

He stared at his 'Unkie' with rather wide eyes, before fumbling. The by was wearing a rather large coat and so the sleeves flopped over his hands. All of Mink's actions were rather clumsy and slow. His covered hands came to rest over the ears of the kitten, who gave a small mew in protest. The boy stared now, a huff on his face. "Bad word!" He stated rather obviously, towards the driver. Had he not been on the verge of a nervous breakdown, Jasper would laugh. However, he stayed silent.Small rides were fine. Jasper would take breaths, grip the door and count minutes in his head until they arrived. Despite hating mathematics, numbers gave him some comfort during those moments. This drive was different. Jasper didn't know these road, familiar signs. He didn't know the length of times and numbers only made his stress worse. It would be hours before they reached where they were going, and all Jasper could think of was chaos. How other cards drove too close, how turns were too sharp, how roads weren't lit well, and how bumpy the roads were. At any moment, they could crash. At any moment, history would replay. Tires would screech, the sick smell of rubber would fill the air as black, ugly marks were made against the asphalt. Metal would collide with a stomach churning sound and glass would shatter. Both inside and out of the car, covered the already tarnished road and the poor riders in the vehicle. The driver seat would launch back. It was going to press against his legs, making him cry out and yank them up. His body would act on it's own, jumping out of the way of the driver seat and instead laying over the much smaller boy who looked far too much like him. His arms would be shaking, stinging from glass that cut his skin, but kept tightly around the boy who would also be shaking and screaming in his arms, trying to cover his young ears. Screams would be heard, yet end too quickly. His eyes would hurt and the smell of smoke - possibly fire - would fill the air. A tint of gas. He would think of a fire starting and only curl tighter around his baby brother. The only real thought in his adolescent mind would be to protect that small, frail boy.Jasper's grip on the door grew tighter and and breathing turned from pants to nothing short of hyperventilation. He was shaking terribly, nails bearing into the interior of the door. He couldn't do it.code by *anna.

Honestly, his mouth, at times, had a mind of its own.. and cursing was a common fault in his speech, he knew that, but he wasn't accustomed to the child being in the back, listening in on his conversation. He could usually see him. If he could see him, he would be aware of him, aware of his own speech and quiet his damn mouth. “Y-yes, Mink, I apologize. Remember not to say that word,” he spoke very calmly, simply. If the boy repeated that word, Jasper would literally kill him, or at least maim him and put him in the hospital for an extended period of time, likely with some extremity cut off completely to maim and ruin his chances of sex ever again. How disappointing... The child would learn the word eventually, of course. They all did. Jasper needed to learn that, before he accused him of poisoning the child's mind with filth. But Jasper didn't even acknowledge him. He didn't acknowledge the word, nor the fact that his precious little boy heard it and told him it was bad. He didn't hit him, he didn't snap at him or glare at him. That was the first thing that concerned him. He had answered his question just a few moments beforehand. Surely, he could acknowledge him now. He kept glancing at him, but nothing was wrong with him—well, something was wrong, obviously, but nothing more than usual. He was accustomed to his fear of cars. He knew it very well. His panting was normal, as was his grip on the door. He didn't want to tell him there was a risk that he would open it and fall out. That would just make it worse, as much as the warning amused him. He would have told someone else, but not Jasper. He was panicking. He could hear his breathing quicken, and he cursed under his breath. He twisted the steering wheel and pulled off to the side of the road, stopped the car entirely. “Jasper..” He leaned to him, put his hand on his. “Calm down, Jasper..” Maybe.. He reached back and searched in his pockets, offered him his pack of cigarettes and lit one for him. “Smoke, it'll ease the stress.” Advertising smoking, how awful, and the kid in the back would learn bad things if he knew any better.. but he was young, and he would forget it in a day or something, as every child did. “Come on, deep breaths..” Calm down.. the child would become frightened. They still had a while to go, he couldn't stop so frequently..daenerys stormborn.

In Jasper's mind, they were still moving. Close and closer to their own pain. HIs chest hurt from the way he was breathing and his hands ached. The man's knuckles were white and he was on the verge of a melt down. So focused on his own thoughts, he was only brought out of them when he saw his friend's hands. His hands were off the steering wheel and he gasped. Quickly looking at him, he almost yelled at the man until he realized that they were stopped. Oh. ..What in the hell. The car was stopped. Sano was gripping him and Mink was in the back seat. He had gathered up all the kittens now and was hiding them in his jacket. The child was terrified, and pain slowly came over the man. He scared his son. He had terrified his own child. Jasper didn't take the smokes. Instead, he wrestled off the seatbelt and left the car. The door was open, and he stumbled to the woods. Jasper wasn't sure where he was going, he was just walking, rushing. Trees passed him, leaves crunched under his feet. The woods were cold, the snow must have melted away. The ground wasn't wet and Jasper allowed himself to finally fall. He sat on the ground, his back hitting a tree. One knee was drawn up and his forehead rest against it. He was trying to breath out slowly, to collect himself. Jasper was no longer in the car. He was on solid, safe ground. Fuck. He needed the smoke now.code by *anna.

He held the kittens close to his chest and curled away from the men in the front while Sano tried to gain Jasper's attention. The man was still out of it. He was still frightened, and he wasn't thinking correctly, he wasn't thinking correctly... still, he had to get him to snap out of it, or he'd pass the fuck out, and Sano was, in no way, prepared for that, in a car practically in the middle of fucking no where. He didn't know where he was. He didn't know where he was going. He couldn't tell the ambulance anything if he needed to call someone, and if he did need to call someone, the poor kid would freak out even more. Jasper was snapping out of it, though.. at least, it seemed that way. He noticed the fear in his son's face, and he bolted. Sano sighed softly and looked at the kid, gave him a soft smile. “Don't worry, kid, just stay here and take care of the kittens, yeah?” Don't worry, focus on kittens. Yeah, good things to tell a child, right? He left the car, took the keys with him to lock it behind him. He didn't trust his surroundings. He closed Jasper's car door behind him as he went, followed him into the treeline. “Jas,” he crouched down beside him. The lit cigarette was still in his hand, but he put it out and settled it behind his ear. He shuffled in his pockets, into his glasses case, and offered him, instead, one of three joints. He lit it and offered it to his mouth, close by, quiet. “Come on, idiot, smoke some before you fucking pass out and terrify me, okay? Could you do that, asshole?” He was playing with him, just.. keeping it light. He didn't want him to know he was actually worried, that would be admitting he cared far too much for him to process mentally or verbally. He.. just couldn't.. not unless he was very high, or drunk.. likely both. “Where's the next town from here? We'll pull off to rest.. I bet Mink is hungry, dinner's in order, and we can get a motel room and rest for the night.” He was exhausted, he knew that. He'd been driving far more than he liked. It was difficult, not being able to switch off with someone. He'd manage, of course, never complain.daenerys stormborn.

Using drugs to calm his nerves so he didn't have a bloody nervous break down. Of course, it was much more dangerous during that time. He would be tired, bruised, and chase away the fears with too many pills. Jasper didn't bother to count them. Just swallow and curl up with one of his many friends whom lived with him, in that old and dreary house. He was always so sad back then. Smile, but with so much force it was unnatural. It took a while before Jasper calmed down. The smoke fell from his lips with a sigh, the shaking had subsided. The man wished he could cry. Bury himself deep within his own mind and never crawl back out. Of course, he would not be so lucky. This was something he had to face - his nightmare, his worst fear. They wouldn't crash. Sano wouldn't let them. They couldn't crash. If he somehow made it again, and lost either of them ( or both ), jasper wouldn't make it this time. It was hard enough to stay sane after he lost his mother and only true father figure. Slowly standing, Jasper let his body lean against his friend and press his face against his shoulder. "Sorry.. I know I am being bothersome. I am trying very hard, I promise" It sounded like he was pleading with the other. His hand sought out Sano's and he tightly gripped it, fingers lacing together. "We need to get back to Mink. He will be frightened" This was whispered, but he still nuzzled his friend's shoulder. A soft thank you, a physical reminder that he was here. Not in his mind, not in a crashed car. "A few more hours. Yes, we should stop. Things will be easier with rest." code by *anna.

If he had drugs, he'd use those, but these would do for now. They had to do for now, or they wouldn't be able to go much further, much less to this place Jasper wanted to live, wherever the fuck that was. Connecticut sounded like some forgotten no-man's land.. like Antarctica, or Canada. He sat on the ground, this.. damn cold as hell ground, and waited for Jasper's breathing to even out, for him to calm. However long it was going to take, he'd sit on the frozen ground and say nothing, letting time run the course, until the breaths returned to Jasper's lungs, and the normality began once again. He watched him slowly stand and he mimicked, feeling him lean against his shoulder. His head was heavy. How likely, given how thick-headed he was.. such a thick skull, irritatingly dense and heavy. He would comment on it... maybe later. “I can tell.. you've lasted longer than you usually do in cars.” He smiled a bit. “Don't apologize to me, you idiot. You act as if I've never seen this before, so just calm down and get your breath.” He was going to reach for his hair, pet it a bit, but he stopped when he took his hand and laced their fingers. “He has kittens and a puppy to keep him company for a bit,” he stated softly. A few more hours.. ugh, this state was full of nothingness. Where the hell were they, anyway? “I'm sure.. and food.” Even Sano was hungry, and willing to eat. It was nice, being close to Sano. They didn't often do this anymore, Jasper started to notice. There were times they would shove each other, joke around, but not like this. When was the last time they held each other? Spoke honestly? Before his marriage. It hurt to admit this fact, to realize that his prior commitment lost him one of the closest relationships he had. Pulling away the rolled paper, he sighed and offered it to Sano, staring at his friend. It would take time before he was truly calm, but at least it was starting to work. "We need to get back to him. Mink is frightened when he is alone, and Noodle will notice I am gone" His words were gentle, softly nosing the other's cheek, pulling his phone from his pocket. Stepping away from his friend, Jasper slowly typed on the small device. He had a map up previously, and now was looking around. "..It.. says that a few miles form here is a bed and breakfast. We can head in there. Though, past it is a small motel. I doubt they will oppose pets as much as a breakfast place" He sighed and let his forehead come to rest against his friend's, squeezing his hand. "Thanks sano"His fingers slowly left the other's hands and he started to walk away. Another side effect to the man smoking - the affection. It didn't seem like he planned to stop either. No, Jasper was going to smoke until he was calm enough that his son didn't have to see the only parent he had suffering. Oh mink. His sweet, loving child. They were so rare, he feared if he actually said he liked them that they would disappear permanently. It was something he'd learned when he was younger.. to keep his cravings and likes to himself, or he'd lose those things. If he liked a particular book, it'd surely go missing. If he told his brother he wanted to be held, he surely would be lose them if he did something the boy didn't like. If no one knew he liked them, then they had no leverage to take them away. He still thought like that, no matter how long he'd known Jasper, known he wouldn't take that away if he told him it mattered to him.. still, old habits die hard, and he didn't want to risk it. He'd enjoy them when they came.. which hadn't been for so long now.He shook his head when he offered the paper back to him. He didn't need it. And, if he was pulled over at any point, he didn't want it in his system. Officers were irritating people; he had no interest to make them dislike him more than they would already, and they would. They almost always did, unless they were off duty. He wasn't a kind man, nor did he roll over easily, particularly if he'd done nothing fucking wrong in the first damn place. No, he was not the police department's favorite person in the world, and he didn't need the added glow of marijuana on his tongue. “Mink is fine, he knows you need to take a breath. And he's there for Noodle,” Mink would worry, as would the dog.. actually, if the child worried, then Noodle would likely worry more, and fuss, making the child even more stressed out. They probably should head back.He pushed away from the tree and watched Jasper flick his thumbs across his phone, searching for something. Bed and breakfast, huh? Breakfast.. sounded terrible. It was the bane of every morning.. breakfast food. People decided it was the time of day to fill the arteries with as much lard as they could manage. Everything slathered in gravy or sizzling in a hot pan of grease. But maybe, if he was lucky, they would have some normal toast and some yogurt. He quite liked yogurt.. maybe some fruit as well. Kiwi, or pineapple.. or apples. Perhaps a pear. He nodded slowly. “Sounds good.. and if they do oppose pets, we can always just.. not tell them.” He shrugged. Noodle was a fairly quiet pet. He was sure they could manage without having to tell anyone he was even there. He tensed at the feeling of Jasper's forehead against his own, only briefly before he relaxed and settled into it.Maybe he should get him high more often? He was much calmer, nicer, sweeter. He watched him leave, quiet a moment, before he followed. He settled back into the car and looked at the kid in the back. He gave him a smile, small and warm, to comfort him. “Did you keep the kittens safe?” He asked, as he pulled his seatbelt around him and clicked it, locked and ready. He waited, however, waited for permission from the man beside him, waited to know that he was calm enough for them to continue, for him to rev the engine and press on the gas, feel the pavement roll beneath them as the speed slowly quickened into a miles.daenerys stormborn.

The kittens bad been placed in a box the child made for them before they left - cut open with blankets stuffed inside. The furry bundles nestled together and sleeping, while Noodle was flopped around his boy's lap. Upon seeing the pair, Mink gently pushed the pup off his lap and lean in towards the front seats. He watched as the pair climbed inside, and barely hesitated before climbing over in to the front. He stumbled a bit and nearly fell, but his father caught the child in his arms. Pulling him close, Jasper pressed his face against his son's hair, sighing. Mink wasn't speaking - he was scared and it showed. His small face was pressed against his father's shirt, curled against him. He was such a small boy.He was always a small boy. That day at the hospital, the blanket looked far bigger than the little boy it was wrapped around. Held in the arms of a very tired, but very happy woman. Cho didn't cry often, but that day her face was wet, softly kissing the newborn's cheek and forehead. It near killed her when they had to take him away for check ups. She started to panic and only calmed down with Jasper sat on the bed and held her against his chest. Smoothing down her hair and promising that he would be fine. It must have been strange for Sano to see. He met Jasper when he was a child, and now he had his own. They weren't even that old. Jasper still looked like a kid and Cho still had such a youthful look in her eyes. Of course, that poor girl was never given the option of being a child. She was always the adult in her family, raising her little sister's nearly on her own. She never thought of having a child of her own - never thought a man would even love her. The girl was not a model, but she was proud of herself. Sure, she had big hips, thighs. Better to kick the shit out of you with. Jasper loved everything about her, of course. He loved those legs she hated, often kissed her bare legs when the woman exposed them, earning playful swats. He loved her large chest that she often complained about, and he loved that, all to damn easily, she could kick his ass. Cho was strong, and borderline terrifying. She could - and has - easily taken Jasper down. He loved it. Strong women were always his thing. In that hospital room, she was so weak. Well, after the baby. She nearly broke Jasper's hand during the delivery. It was a rare side to see. her crying, clinging to Jasper, scared. Fear didn't suit her. Jasper was always in debt for Sano being there that day. That man, and his best friend came to support him. Sano and Koota never truly got along, but that was fine. Jasper did not need them to like each other, just be there for him.. Like how Sano was here now. He tightly held Mink, kissing his cheek, his forehead, before closing his eyes. After buckling in, of course. He was trying to sleep. It would help the rest of the ride. code by *anna.
