Mourning for Maryland
Lochland Emergency Report
We have a fair bit of fun here at the Lochland Times. Our staff knows how fortunate they are to enjoy what they do, love the town they live in, and like the people they work with. That said, it isn’t always an easy job. Sometimes we have to write about tragedies that torture the emotional state of our nation.

Today is such a day.

We hang our heads in a moment of silence for the five journalists who lost their lives in the Maryland Mass Shooting. The heaviness that fell over our newsroom when we heard the news still holds our hearts in a crippling state of sorrow.

A newspaper office, much like our own, was attacked in a fit of rage. The suspect was apprehended, but that does not make this terrible tragedy any better for those lost.

We at the Lochland Times offer our deepest condolences to the families and friends who have lost loved ones as well as those who were injured in the attack. Nothing we could say or right could fill this new hole in your lives.

As we mull quietly through our daily tasks, overshadowing but not erasing the undertones of fear we harbor, we would like to make a statement:

Ladies and gentlemen, we write what is necessary. It is not always pretty, but it is vital! A voice in the middle of troubled times can often be a burden if the message is not to everyone’s likeing and still we speak. Though we may be more cautious of our words now, know that fear will never cow us into abusing our pens.

We stand by our fellow journalists; we shall mourn those lost, but this will not stop us.

Our hearts go out to you, Maryland.

Sincerely, The Lochland Times

Party for Pride
Lochland Special Report
This month, Lochland Grove celebrated Pride! With Equality Day having gone by fabulously on the 26th; this year’s Pride Parade took place on the 30th! The Lochland Times is proud to be an ongoing ally to our LGBTQ+ community, and hopes that everyone had a safe and fun celebration. We had an outstanding turn out this year! We had visitors from all over; people came together from other counties were noted to have enjoyed the festivities, as well as many of our newer residents.

The Pride Parade had several floats from local clubs, businesses, and the high school marching band even performed some renditions of songs special for the occasion. The Parade—

ended at the fairgrounds where the floats handed out candy before breaking down. City Hall provided hand-held flags and face painting for a small donation of which the proceeds will be split between Lochland Grove’s Gay-Straight Alliance chapter, and aid to the flood survivors in their settlement here in Lochland.

The fairgrounds were set up and open to the public by 3pm, and tickets for the Johnny Lennox concert sold out just hours before he took to the stage. In related news, the city of Hartford gifted Lochland Grove a classical carousel which had its inaugural rides after a ribbon cutting by the Mayor just before sundown. In a press release—

from Hartford it stated; “This carousel is a symbol of the ongoing congenial charity, openness, and dependability of the community of Lochland [Grove] [sic]; a city that strays from capricious behavior and mechanism and strives to show humanity on a daily basis.” (Carousel rides will cost just two dollars per person, and proceeds will also go towards the resettlement fund until further notice.)

We hope that we can all agree that we can continue to be a bastion of society here in Lochland upon the conclusion of Pride. And remember Lochland, in the words of the great Harvey Milk; “Hope will never be silent.

Ecstatic for Equality
Lochland Special Report
If you're anything like me, you would have grown up hearing the phrase 'life isn't fair' over just about everything it was applicable to. While such a saying may still be relevant to some things, we are making great strides in other areas of fairness. Don't worry, faithful readers, I come with examples to help prove my point.

Unless you have a terrible realtor who sold you a house under a rather large boulder, you probably have a decent understanding of the changes happening toward the LGBT community and same-sex marriages. The first of many breakthroughs in this social growth happened way back in 2003 when anti-sodomy laws were declared unconstitutional. I know, that seems so long ago, right? That’s only because it took another ten years before another significant dent would be struck into the defense of all those conservatives trying to keep the LGBT community--

from having equal rights.

2013 would mark a pivotal point in the severely uphill battle for equality when same-sex marriages were recognized as legal in the state of California. Only two years later would this trend sweep the nation and bring equal marriage rights to all states. Justice Kennedy had this to say on the matter “No union is more profound than marriage, for it embodies the highest ideals of love, fidelity, devotion, sacrifice, and family. In forming a marital union, two people become something greater than once they were. As some of the petitioners in these cases demonstrate, marriage embodies a love that may endure even past death. It would misunderstand these men and women to say they disrespect the idea of marriage. Their plea is that they do respect it, respect it so deeply that they seek to find its fulfillment for themselves. be-

-Their hope is not to condemned to live in loneliness, excluded from one of civilization’s oldest institutions. They ask for equal dignity in the eyes of the law. The Constitution grants them that right.”

An Arkansas case in 2017 was ruled again in favor of same-sex couples. It stated that all benefits of marriage would be granted to all legal marriages. Specifically, the case referenced allowing both a biological and non-biological parent of a same-sex couple to be added to the child’s birth certificate.

We’ve got some improvements to make elsewhere but June 26th is a day dedicated to LGBT equality and a testament to what we can do if we truly pull together on a matter. To all member and supporters of the LGBT community, we say congratulations and encourage you to spend this equality day enjoying the fruits of your labors!

Ballgown Benefit
Lochland Special Report
Is there no end to the charitable lengths you lovely Lochlanders will go to? The smart money is on ‘no’ and we’re not even going to attempt complaining about that, what sense would that even make? None at all when we here at the times are just so fond of doting on the kindness spread around our town. Seriously, you folks give the news such a beautiful new outlook.

Speaking of beautiful, we haven’t seen anything quite as gorgeous as the gowns being donated for this years charity ball! Watermelon Candy, yes the very same company who drops jaws at fashion week, --

has offered up an astounding variety of formal wear for the event. Better still, the company is the brains behind the operation!

Watermelon Candy found time to orchestrate the entire pre-auction gown grab with the same generous spirit that draws in our bachelors and bachelorettes every year. Yep, everything they’ve laid out for the participants is for the low, low, price of free. They’re in it to help encourage community members to join in the annual ball by eliminating the biggest hang-up any single guy or gal could have. With this stunning--

selection of garments to choose from, and their highly agreeable price tag, everyone will absolutely be dressed to the nines.

If you have already painstakingly selected the perfect ensemble for the ball that’s great too! Getting around to look at the formal attire on display is still worth the visit. There’s no rush either because this ballgown benefit is open to the public for the next full week! It’s a great precursor to the auction itself and one thing we know for sure is that this years charity ball is going to be one to remember!

Charity Ball Cont.

Aimee Matsuo
image Though new to Lochland, Miss Matsuo shares the town’s charitable spirit. Before the Thurmond flood she loved giving back to her community. Now she hopes to support those less fortunate than herself.

An optimist by nature, this lovely Bachelorette hopes to settle in Lochland and open a candy store. Life is too short to mourn her losses when she can brighten someone’s day. Besides, who doesn’t enjoy a sweet treat?

If you are looking for a bubbly date out to spread goodwill and good times, then look no further.

Aleks Petrova
image As a single mother and survivor of the 2014 flood, Miss Petrova can relate to the struggles of those who suffered due to Hurricane Caroline. They are the reason she is on the auction block tonight.

Hailing from Nevada, this talented woman is both a published author and the CEO of the coffee franchise Java Star. When not busy with work, she spends time with her son. They often spend time in the kitchen making treats together, some of which have appeared on the Java Star menu.

If you are looking for a relaxed conversation with little stress, bid on Miss Petrova. She will make your evening..

Anya Graves
image Miss Graves was born in Lochland Grove, but spent most of her life in Rochester NY. She is happy to be back in her hometown.

When she isn’t manning the desk as a secretary for Body Image, Anya occupies her time with athleticism and volunteer activities. It is not uncommon to see her running through Lochland Grove or helping at the local animal shelter. Her cat ‘Boo’ is her best friend.

Those bidding on her should be warned: be prepared for a work out! Miss Graves will take any opportunity she can to dance the night away. She likes being active, and for the evening you are her partner in crime.

Deanna Henderson
image Deanna was born and raised in England, but has traveled all over the world since she was two years old. She moved to Lochland from California barely a month ago, so she’s a new face, but a lovely one at that.

She’s a music agent who’s represented big names on the field including Johnny Lennox, and you may see an agency opening up in Lochland later this year with her name on it.

If you want to have a hard-working, intelligent, and beautiful woman on your arm, Deanna’s your gal.

Felix Buchanan
image If you have ever watched the BBC, you might have spied the handsome face of Mister Buchanan. The illustrious actor moved to the United States in the past year, and is currently living in our wonderful town.

While acting may be his passion, Mister Buchanan has a great love for art. He can often be found on Plum Avenue or in Unity Park where he enjoys spending early afternoons painting. He has recently donated some of his work for silent auction at this very Charity Ball.

If you are interested in spending an evening of imaginative conversation and charming British wit, this Bachelor is for you.

Johnny Lennox
image From a young age Johnny Lennox mastered several instruments and went on to garner international fame for both playing and composing his music.

Originally from Los Angeles, our handsome bachelor has come a long way to visit our little town. He is currently working to expand a pet project of his parents, an organization that funds music programs for schools. While it has had success with large city communities, he has yet to see what it can do with smaller ones.

If you share a love for music and charity work, or take a peek into celebrity life, look no further.

Michelle Cordero
image Miss Cordero is a woman with both beauty and brains. She works as a doctor at Lochland Hospital, aiding in emergency care of the unfortunate.

When not working she enjoys long walks with her Siberian Husky, Marlin. Together they enjoy whatever natural beauty they can find. Lochland’s beautiful forests are currently satiating her appetite, but as a Miami native she longs for a view of the ocean.

If you love dogs, the beach, and exercise, you may enjoy an evening with this delightful Bachelorette. She is great company, and if you have two left feet don’t worry; the doctor is standing by.

Raidon Gibbs
image Although he was born in Los Angeles, Raidon (or Raid to friends) was never destined to stay there. He has spent his life traveling the world and experiencing it first hand.

When not seeing the sites world-wide, Lochland’s Adventurous Fire Chief enjoys more local activities such as gardening, camping, and cooking. Being active is a large part of his life.

If you love good stories and an active evening, this Bachelor may be the man for you; Who knows where your conversation will travel.

Rhys Abernathy
image As an expert in historic conservation Doctor Abernathy is constantly away from home. Renowned within his field, he holds a great passion for anthropology. It is more than a career to him.

While work takes up much of his time, it is not all he does. He has a soft spot that wishes nothing more than to heal all wounds in the world, contributing to numerous charities when he came. His thriving love of academia consistently demands he expand his horizons via the written word.

For an evening full of meaningful conversation, look no further.

Ru Hadley
image Lochland Born and raised, Mister Hadley is well acquainted with the hidden treasures of our town. He has lived in California for the past few years, but has returned to his roots in the hopes of writing a book in his free time. His career as a personal assistant for Rocker Johnny Lennox keeps him relatively busy.

When not working or writing, Mister Hadley enjoys numerous athletics or spending time with his pets. He also has a secret place in his heart for action movies.

If you are looking for laid back charm with a sharp mind, this bachelor is for you.

Uriah Sutton
image A gentle soul, Uriah is a professional poet who is never at a loss for a kind word. He has a great love for people and experiences that often lead him to populated corners of Lochland Grove.

Growing up, Uriah’s parents ran a daycare. He is quite comfortable with children, though he has none of his own. Family is important, but his cats give him all the attention he needs.

If you are looking for the undivided attention of a gentleman, look no further. This Bachelor is the perfect man for you.

Your Horoscope
( March 21 - April 19)
Your intense brilliance can sometimes get so heated that it burns all those around you. Take some time to cool off and allow yourself to appear level-headed so that everyone can appreciate your input on things.

(April 20 - May 20)
The future is looking bright and sunny for you. Just take things one step at a time and try not to get overwhelmed as success starts pouring on to you.

(May 21 - June 21)
Oh dear Gemini. You never could keep a secret, could you? It's never too late to start trying to better yourself and that includes learning how to keep things in confidence. Just try your best so that misunderstandings are kept to a minimum. Your life can never progress where you want it to go if you don't know how to maintain some degree of privacy.

( June 22 - July 22)
Drama, drama, drama! That's all it ever is and all it ever seems to be. Although the world may seem hectic around you and you may feel as though you have to keep up with everything and everyone, you need to be sure not to get too overwhelmed. Take some time out for yourself. Enjoy a sunset, a hot bath, or refreshing walk in order to unwind yourself.

(July 23 - August 22 )
Emotions have this tricky, nasty way of causing us to behave in ways we wouldn't do so otherwise. Yes, stress is terrible and sometimes unavoidable but you can change how you react to things. Do you want to put off positive or negative vibes? The choice is up to you.

(August 23 - September 22)
Sometimes life can feel so overwhelming and as if it's been against you lately. Fear not. Just ride out the waves of turbulence, for there are much calmer waters headed your way.

(September 23 - October 22)
Everything is about to line up for you, Libra, and slingshot you headfirst into success. With all of the good things about to happen to you, try not to get way in over your head with things. Take the steps ahead just a little bit at a time and seize opportunity where it's needed.

(October 23 - November 21)
Suspicion and jealousy have always been your constant companions. It's only because you care so much but these types of behaviors can tend to turn people away. Try not to antagonize or argue with those you care about. Remember: your loved ones are on your side and only want what's best for you too.

(November 22 - December 21)
Feeling energetic yet? If not now, then you certainly will soon. Try to channel all of that motion and emotion into something useful. You've got the motivation to do things, now go for it!

(December 22 - January 19)
You're a practical sort of person and you've always had good work ethic. Don't let yourself fall away from the relationships you build with family, friends, and lovers in favor of the ones you have on the business field. All bonds should be nurtured and tended to; it'd be good for you to remember that.

(January 20 - February 18)
Life is not always rainbows and butterflies. Things can get tough. While it all feels like it's falling apart, just remember that all bad moments do come to an end. Don't allow anxiety, anger, or discomfort turn you into a bitter person. Persevere and push through it! You'll find yourself much happier if you do.

(February 19 - March 20)
You're such a big dreamer. Dreaming and aspiring to great things is wonderful. Keep up that great attitude but don't forget to always take a moment to view your future with a little criticism and logic. Know what it probable and practical, and what is not.
