Lochland started as a small village that made money from the lumber industry. Several lumber mills are still in production today. In 1893 the village was in turmoil over a series of deaths happening in the surrounding forest. Victims seemed to vary and no connection could be found at the time. Generations later, it is still a mystery that has never been completely solved. It took an accident on the part of the killer to finally find him at all.

Robert Lewis was a simple farrier who didn’t bother anyone. Some residents would occasionally marvel at his social ineptitude with sympathy. He didn’t seem to want to bother anyone, and went on with his business daily with little interaction. It was when he accidentally let one of his victims escape that he was captured. Old journal entries of both himself and observers seem to conflict on just what he was thinking, but all mention the smile on his face; it was strangely satisfied.

The motivations of the man are still debated today.

Now the Town of Lochland Grove, this small municipality has seen a large growth spurt since the mid-twentieth century. While some of the citizens resent the town's celebrity, it's undeniable that it is the reason the town has survived for so long. While it still remains a logging town, the mainstay of the economy is the tourism industry. The town is also known for its tight-knit community atmosphere; everyone is quite active in each others' lives. There are town wide celebrations and gatherings regularly, and participation in these events is practically mandatory

Geography and More

The town of Lochland Grove is located in Connecticut, USA. It is approximately an hour south in driving distance from Hartford. Lochland Grove is surrounded by miles of forest, which is why the town is known as a logging town. About twenty minutes away by car, there is a lake that is a rather popular hangout, and a reservoir for the city's water supply. As Lochland Grove is somewhat isolated, it is reasonably self-sustaining. Unemployment is only a 2%, and with the bustling tourism industry; Lochland is a rather affluent town, able to pay to keep their public buildings in good shape, and to keep taxes low. Since the seventies, while there is still quite a strong tourist base who come strictly because of the Lewis murders, Lochland Grove has also become a popular destination for those who want to get away from the hustle of the city; many even come to the town for a honeymoon getaway. The town of Lochland Grove is diverse both in the ethnicities of the citizens, and the general personalities. Lochland may seem like a traditional small town, but it is surprisingly accommodating to anyone considered "different."
